I got a spare set of steering columb switches,
As I plan on making some CF ones, and if I messed it up wanted a spare set.

On taking them off though I noticed instead of using the ford conectors they have choped them off and put there soldered there own wires on.

So if they ever broke you can't just swap them you have to mod them and then re-solder them.

don't see why they could not have just got hold of the ford sockets.

I think the rest of the wiring loom uses Ripaults connectors; with the change to Ford switchgear it was easier to modify the new bits than change the loom.

You don't have to change the loom, you can either get replacement pins and crimp the existing wires to the socket, or keep the ford wires on the socket and then get a new exising wiring plug and crimp the wires to this. there's not need to butcher the conector and solder them on.
