Can anyone tell me the correct order for assembling the bonnet hinge fittings on a wedge? My car was in a garage last week and for some reason they removed the bonnet and didn't know how to put it back. I only found out when I opened the bonnet at home and one bolt was missing totally from one side. I have, for each side, one hinge bolt with a domed nut, one flat chromed washer, one rubber grommet and one large quite thick black spacer. Does anyone know the correct assembly order for each side?

What age / model are you talking about ?

As on most 350 / 400 the bonnet is held in by a modern fastening

A bolt either side of the bonnet into the wings ! This modern bit of technologhy also acts as the pivot, and if not done up correctly could cause the bolt to come out with dire consequences yikes

But not sure wot earlier models used , would have thought much the same method

It will tend to lift in that corner at speed, and can be a bit scary.

I would imagine, put the washer on the bolt, through the bonnet, then spacer and rubber bit, then into wing.

It isn't critical.

A little bit of threadlock or glue on the bolt will help prevent it from undoing.

Yes the black plastic / rubber spacer is just to stop the bonnet rubbing on the wing.

You may also want to use a spring washer on the bolt.
And some lock tight (thread lock.)

Also you may want to use a long as bolts that will fit so if they do come loose they will take long to come out.

Im surprized they did not use lock wire with holes in the bolts, as they did in the pod bolts.

As I would have thought the bonnet bolts are more important than the pod ones. maybe because they get taken off so much.

I thought of wirelocking, but the problem is - what onto?

I suppose you could trap a metal plate with the bolt, which is too big to rotate.

well the pods have a hole in the fiberglass.

On the bonnect the hole for the bolt is very long so you could drill that and the bolt and then lock them together.

Either that or split pin it like the rear hubs.
