Just finished a days work on the wedge .. what a great day !

Firstly - needed to get her warmed up - so took her for a last spin around the block .. boy it went like stink and sounded great, not been out for a drive for several weeks due to holidays and other things.

Next - I wanted to try out an exhaust mod I've been working on.

A easily removable slip in silencer.

Result - 10 db less.

Down to 107db from 117db at 4000 rpm @ 1/2 metre using a static rig. So I'm very happy and I'm sure my neighbours will be too ..

I'm sure you are wondering why at this point .. well I have a new EMS (Emerald) that's been specially built to my requirements.. so I'll be trying to fit that .. and well the mapping with the loud exhaust 'might' have been unpopular .. and I'm sure the exhaust mod could come in useful for the future.

Next - I wired in the flamer to a new position 6 inches from the exhaust pipe exit - so hopefully it will work now. I've also insulated the exhaust area of the boot - so hopefully it won't melt stuff in that area like it used to !

Also - rewired my additional fan (14 inch) to my revotech controller and that appears to be working nicely smile

Ended the day by taking the bonnet off in readyness to removing the crank pulley - as I need to weld on a trigger wheel tomorrow - will also be installing a wide band lambda and in car display (afr & exhaust gas temp).

What fun smile

Good luck with the crank pulley. I bent a 30" Britool cracking bar getting mine off.

I couldn't agree more. If you have some drawings or can tell me where you got it from, I'd appreciate it. I tend not to use the Wedge if I'm going to leave home or return between 23:00 and 06:00. When I first got the car, I came home once about 2:00 in the morning, and was told by a few people in the village they could hear me for about three miles!!! yikesyikesyikes

The crank pulley bolt is always difficult .. but I've had it off before and it was not too bad.

The silencer is my own design and just mounts inside the tail piece (single exhaust) on my car !

I could make another if someone wants one - as I still have some tube left - it's very convienient as it can be removed in 2 mins.. for that full wedge effect.

PM me if anyone needs one.

I've now mounted the EMS trigger wheel but need to get the correct bolts as the existing ones were too short
once I have them I can weld the nuts on the trigger plate and it's job done.

Also need to get some alloy welding wire as I've decided to make the mount for the inductive (magnetic) pickup for the trigger wheel in alloy (3mm) as it will not affect the weak magnetic signal..

Anyway - it's all good fun.

Is the silencer like the removable baffle what they have on aftermarket motorbike exhausets Rev? Looks like a really easy way to do I suppose, if you've got the tools. Which is basically the main exhaust diameter blanked off with a bean can fitted inside the diamter of the exhaust, and a smaller inch diameter pipe within the blanked piece, all held in with a split pin or 2?

I wouldn't bother - it picks up the pulses in magnetic field, not steady-state stuff. If you're still worried, just use stainless. It doesn't hold a magnetic field (at least, not austenitic). And you can use normal MIG wire, the welds themselves might corrode, but it will hold together. Paint it and no-one will know.

Adam - I was just using what I had around .. it was either 3mm alloy or 3mm mild steel .. and the alloy is easier to work with..

Just wanted to try the alloy weld .. (£10) for a reel won't break the bank.

Woody - it fits inside the pipe and does not protrude.. and is held in place by the exhaust chrome trim - so no additional drilling needed.

Don't forget to change the torch liner then - another £10 wink

I never changed the liner when I did ali welding. can't remember now what gas I used so you may want to check what the right gas is, I know I've got 2 types, not sure if the other one was for Stainless though.

Maybe because iron splatterings plus aly splatterings are the ingredients of Thermite?

Rev - let me know how you get on, I'll probably try it too some day.

Cos you may have a steel liner (too sticky) and may need teflon/ceramic wink
