Hello,

For years I've always wanted a really cool car that did away with these so called "driver aids" and got to the heart of driving. I'm sure most of you would agree that a wedge fits this description.

The question is, can I afford one? What should I be paying for a good condition 350i series 2? Would it be in a comparable price range to something like an S?

Also is it worth getting one that is a bit of a heap for less cash and bring it up to spec over the course of a fgew years?

Thanks

Well we don't know your budget, but you could get a sorted 350 for about 4-5k, and a good 280 for 2k-3K.
Depends on your skills, they are easy to work on, and parts are mostly cheep and easy to get. but would say it could cost more to get a bad one sorted than it would cost to buy a sorted one.

Also do you want to spend all your time working on it or driving it.

I'd say a budget of £5000 would be reasonable for a TVR, but mine is closer to about £3000.

Without a doubt I'd like to spend more time driving it than fiddling under the bonnet, but I wouldn't shy away from one that needed a little TLC.

Insurance for an S is exactly the same as a 350i but obviously the 350 sounds like it's got a lot more bang for its buck!

Have you a seperate budget for Repairs or somthing going wrong. not saying it will, but allways handy to keep a bit in reserve to get you back on the road. you should be able to get a ok one with 3k. may have to be a ebay one though not a PH one.

Definitely hold out for the best one you can afford and don't fall in love with the soundtrack of the first one you drive (easier to say than do!) As with any car there will always be a got-ya that you hadn't spotted when buying the car so allow some funds as a contingency. If you can push a spanner these can be very cheap cars to run. The history/search on this forum holds a wealth of information and you'll always get good advice asking here. Oh and buy the Steve Heath Bible ASAP!
