If you want to change the LT77 to a T5 then...
You will need a RS500 T5 as the Griff one have the remote in the wrong position and won't fit a Wedge. Neither will the Griff bell housing as it has parts of the remote on the top which foul the chassis. Get a T5 bell housing from John Eales complete with new slave cylinder. Get a new prop made by Reco prop, make new mounts and machine a new gear lever. You will need new pipe work and bits and pieces. Change the speedo drive - T5 is electronic IIRC and the Wedge is mechanical and get it recalibrated and apart from taking the engine out to fit it all... no problems. Budget around £1500-2000 unless you are doing it yourself in which case bits and pieces will be about £1000. As I said, the box is on top of this.
Done it on the 520SE to fit the touring car spec T5 with Quaife internals to go with the supercharged 5.2 litre engine.
Mind you the LT77 coped with 375+ before the supercharger and to be honest the later boxes will cope with 300+. This does make the T5 conversion extremely expensive considering a LT77 rebuild/uprating is only about £350.
In other words... yes it can be done. It costs a lot of money and for most Wedge engines the LT77 is fine. The only reason I did it was the supercharged engine torque (500+) snapped a shaft in the LT77. I had reached the limit with that box so time to change.

Daz,
Give Ken Tomlinson a shout. He works over at N&T Transmissions in "Over Whitacre" near Nuneaton.
From the much research I did last year, Ken is THE man when it comes to the LT77 box and what can be done with it.
If I can find his number, I'll text it to you.

Yes, its a bit tough. Best time to call is about 6 ish. Ken did my box and he did a great job. Mind you, he should know what he's doing, he designed the unit for Rover/Triumph!Ask him to tell you about the decsision to go with ATF fluid instead of gear oil - it's a hoot, and a brilliant example of how management should not make an engineering decision !
Even cheaper option for longer legs - get bigger rear tyres!
You can easily go up 5% radius in the wheelarches, and maybe 7-10%.
i'm not sure that the T5 will get you longer legs anyway, depending on where you look, 4th/5th ratios are 1.00 and 0.73 or 0.80, which is similar to the LT77.

Very Interesting Read.Look's like I may re-think my plans of using a T5 in the tasmin race car. and stick with a LT77.
