The problem I have isn't getting under the front. It's being able to swing the leaver to get the car off the ground! Can you jack the car up when the trolley jack saddle is positioned under the cross member, or does your jack handle hit the chin spoiler as mine does?

Yes mine works fine, the way I got round that is to just insert the handle sideways onto the jack so the bend in the handle goes sideways not upwards

It goes under the crossmember fine. Initial jacking is a bit limited but it soon gains height.

Woody, last jack I had was a Halfrauds one, £29.99 for the kit, lasted 2.5 years. The difference in quality is great as this one is all alloy & i'm hoping it'l go a lot longer thumbup

I have a £20 2 tonne thing from Halfords or Autoparts or wherever, I have no trouble getting it under the 390. If I was really struggling I'd use the engine crane to pick the whole car up biggrin

I was looking at them also.

I have a big pro workshop 2.5 ton unit. but even that has problems getting under the front splitter, plus is very heavy.

So was thinking of getting a lighter weight one.

I bought a 3T 500mm+ lift jack from Screwfix - about £35 iirc - along with two pairs of 6T axle stands for £16 a pair.

I cannot lift the car directly with the 3T jack and have to start with a smaller 2T but being able to get the car 1/2 metre off the deck is quite useful at times even if it does take a while to get it there.

All Jacks will have a weight rating.

I think these are 1.25 tons 1250KG. plus your only be lifting the front or back not the whole car. so should be ok for car's upto 2000KG. so unless you have a 4x4 it should be fine. 90% of TVR's will be less that 1200KG. If you not sure tell us what car he has (and don't say a red one wink )

As will all jack's do not work on the car with it just on the jack. allways jack the car then put on axle stands.
