Bloody loosing my rag with the wedge.

The trip to Le Mans was superb. the wedge was certainly the centre of attention on more than one occasion... But.....

The Drivers side Headlight motor packed up on the Queyside on the way over, the passenger side linkage came off the pod sometime whilst in france ( this was noticed when the pod tried to escape from its hole at 140+mph and almost ripped itself out of the appeture.)
Both Pods are now Gaffa Taped shut. In addition, the nice wood on my dashboard has started to crack due to the high temperatures over the last 2 weeks, my radiator has sprung a small leak and the bonnet strutt has just decided to snap itself loose from the bonnet, tearing a large lump of fibreglass out of the bonnet with it. Thing is, work is so busy, I donot have the time to even look at it

What I need is to pay someone who has the time and patience to sort out the problems, finish off the boot carpet and other bits like the water leak, the interiour carpet, the facia, the heater controls .... AAARGHHHHHHHH

Oh C..P!!!!
Know just how you feel. I am brand new to TVR ownership(wedge), had the car 2 weeks with a plan of enjoying this summer! You know cruise, pose, thrash. Well it's off the road already with a list as long as my arm of things that need doing X@X!X@!!
Oh well, maybe next year.
(Sorry i'm no help)

Yep, you both have my sympathy - 1 month into ownership, and mine's been off the road more than on it. It's currently sat in the garage with a broken throttle cable and leaking petrol tank, drivers side window has fallen off it's runners and into the door, as well as previously mentioned electrical gremlins, light problems, and wheezing power steering.

It's blummin great when it goes, but I feel more trips cap in hand to the bank manager will be required shortly!

Oops, think I hit REPLY without replying there...

I was in France on holiday last Monday when my Service Manager called (on my private mobile, not the Company one - I don't even know how he got the number ?!) to ask how soon I could be back in the office. I told him Thursday 'cos he sounded desperate; so on Thurs we went out on a site job and at 4PM he announced that all the half-finished jobs are now mine, as he's off on holiday for 2 weeks. First I knew about it. Nice way to treat your staff? I think not.

I'd volunteer to sort out your car FOC, Jason, but as you're about 5 hours from me I don't think it would be that feasible...

I've got to say that (touch wood) I've not really had any problems with mine for the last 2 years or so.
I did have a bit of hassle before that, but she seems to have settled down nicely. I still spend money on it like water tho!
You know how it goes, .... "mmmmmm, think I'll do the driveshafts" (and end up with a whole arse end rebuild) , or my latest musings -which are that "just cos it feels a bit floaty at 150mph+ I should really replace the shock absorbers now...." (and then I'll do the springs too, I just know it!) In actual fact the wedge has never broken down which is more than can be said for my new Volvo.
I think its a mental disease: Gotawedgesospendmoneyonitevenifitsgoingwellitus!
I had even been thinking of changing the cam (51k miles - so by my reasoning it must be due, right??!!??) but the performance to/from Le Mans was so good I simply cannot justify it.

Oh, and my wood fascia got a tiny crack at the weekend too cos of the heat.

There is no known cure. Drug therapy can mitigate the symptoms though. The drug is called Thrashyourwedgeonabendycountryroadandthroughafewnicelongtunnelsonasunnyday. Available from your garage.

OOO is that a serious offer ? 5 hours drive would be awsome .. roof down, stationary on my M1 enjoying the sun ... Loverly !

Was in Peterborough & Bradford on Saturday (working overtime cos there is no one else that can do what I do at present), so i was quite close.

Jason,

if you are willing to pay someone to do the work why not give it to Peninsula like normal ? Did I miss something obvious here?

A lot of those problems are easy to deal with. What I can't stand is trying to sus out what's up with the car when it goes wrong.

I stripped my last wedge to pieces and put it back together again so I know what goes where and how to do it. You just need a bit of patience!!

I was rather fortunate buying my 350 decided in Feb. to start looking thinking well I can spend a couple or three months looking for a good one then by May/June should have one and be ready for summer. Well first one I saw in Feb I drove fell in love with it and bought it. See the cunning thing about this was I had three months to sort all the little niggles, like drive shaft UJs anti-roll bar bushes, full service, cut appart and re-weld exhaust system so that it does not touch chassis, driveshaft or rear valance, all of which were rubbing when purchased, rebuild window guides (bottom had rotted clean off), replace lower ball joint, strip clean repack and reseal rear wheel bearings etc. etc. But my god every time I drive the thing I think WOW what a bargain. Only problem is it wont fit down the ramp to my underground car parking space so I have to keep it a my parents or at work. Still you cant have everything. I'm just waiting for a letter from English heritage complaining that I may have dammaged the walls (vibration damage) on a local river bridge after crossing it on the red line in second gear what an awsome sound, it made the guy on the other side in a Z3 jump. Sorry I have rambled on a bit here but stick with it.

Stick with it,you know it makes no sense.

After 2 years of trouble free motoring the 450 has decided to spring an oil leak from somewhere and the nearside manifold has blown a hole through one of its welds. And to cap it all I was made redundant last week, and the insurance is due for renewal in 2 weeks.

Every cloud has a silver lining, if I get a new job in the next month, then I can spend my redundancy money on a new pair of stainless manifolds, carbon fibre induction kit, polished alloys,.............

You know why that is - you nicked one of mine while it was in storage. Every f***king thing else has packed up on my car recently, so why not that?

Rich.

(1)Probably not terminal...
(2)Still got the linkage? Or did it fall off altogether?
(3)Is it really wood? Probably just Fablon-type of thing with polyester lacquer over it
(4)You sure it's the rad? Last leak I had was from the small hose at the top O/S of the rad... looked like the rad but wasn't
(5)Is this because you have a ram of too-high a gas pressure on? Should be 100 Newtons: a lot of them are 200+, which stresses the GRP when the bonnet's closed
(6)Hmmm... I don't like trimming, sorry...
(7)Where from?
(8)See (6)...
(9)What's wrong with that then? But see (6)...
(10)Bloody TVR rubbish.... :bah:

So, to sum up.... you're a moaning git who needs to drive his TVR more often and closely scrutinise the decor a bit less*. Wait till you see my 390 @, then you'll know the meaning of 'rough sex'

*Apart from the headlamps, but even that's not the end of the world... I sorted out a pair of pods# last week without too much grief. One had a crusty limit switch and the other needed the motor endfloat setting-up. And some manky connections etc. etc.... after that it kind of got lost in an alcoholic haze...

#Not mine (or my car's), I hasten to add...

@ Or ask Richard Aldous, who had to sit on a milk crate, hold both the doors on and operate the wiper by hand when I took him out in it...
