Trying to fit the diff complete with carriers to the chassis and have a couple of questions

When the bottom carrier is bolted up tight to the chassis the aluminium top carrier doesnt line up properly - the nearside is approx 5 mm off the rubber of the mounting bush. Would you expect this to pull up into place? there doesnt seem to be any give anywhere even when the bolts are loosened.

I have a copy of the parts list which I'm using as a manual. There seems to be a spacer shown between the top of the aluminium carrier and the underside of the rubber on the mounting bush. Problem is my copy of the parts list doesnt not "list" this part. Does anyone know if there is indeed a spacer or washer or ? between these two parts?

Thanks

Shaun

Don't know about this myself, but remember that there was a topic a while back discussing this. Probably comes up when you do a search on diff and/or carrier.
Could be trailing arm version related, but can perhaps point you in the right direction.

there is a large washer between the bush and the ally housing also check that the cradle for the diff is not bent i have changed these on a couple of cars and i also find it better to fit the bolts in the rubber bush first then use a bar to line up the rest

I hope you're taking photos of this putting-back-together activity - it'd make a really good start for a 'haynes' style manual - the ideal accompaniment to the 'Bible'.

I agree, I've just recently had my rear end off (oo err missus!) and there was indeed a large washer approximately 3-4mm thick and approx 40mm dia between the ally mount and the bottom of the rubber mount. i also had another one above the mount as well..
