Just coming home & the engine starts making the most horrific noise. Rat tat tat tat eek When I turn it over it sounds like one of the cylinders is making a big hissing noise instead of compressing, which as the revs rise turns in to a knocking. Everything looks ok, oil pressure seems normal etc. Blown a valve maybe?

Relax Wyn, maybe it where your brains. Don't start hte engine again. Maybe it is a small thing. Let the guy's who know the engine look at it. Otherwise come over to Holland and it will be fixed. Good luck from the Dutchies

I wouldn't start the engine until someone has looked at it.
The 4x4 place you used to get it tuned - are they near you?

Normally on here its a case of rejoicing as one can slip in something a little bigger , 4.6 , 5 , 5.1 , the list goes on ,could be cheaper to do that if your's is a complex fault , think positive ! Borrow that red seac while she is being sorted , you may like her !

Hi Steve, the 4.5 is plenty for me, feels as quick & as sharp as anything I've driven, so even if it needs a refurb which I don't think it will, that'll be the cheapest option.

Do these look like shorter trumpets? anyone know?

I believe you already have bigger injectors fitted?

If your just after replacements, then yu could try:

Fleabay?
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/RANGE-ROVER-CLASSIC-V8-3-9-F...

You might get some from a Land rover dealer - the ones fitted to the 4.6 Rangerovers?

RPI also stock
http://www.v8engines.com/carbs-3.htm

Real steal are also good, as are their prices:
http://www.real-steel.demon.co.uk/

Failing that, JE Engineering!

Good luck fella.
