Should be easy enough to install electric openers, although the door catches can be pretty stiff on Wedges. No idea about the handles, sorry...

Well, I can tell you much about the handles, as I have been on the telephone all f*****g day to obsolete ford parts dealers and scrap yards. The FoMoCo p/n :
LHS handle 77ABT 22401 ( LH2 Chrome, AA for Black).
RHS handle 77ABT 22400 ( RH1 Chrome, AA for Black).
Apparently, all sources agree that 77AB is a ford Escort Mk2 prefix code, but these handles occur on Capris, and Cortinas of that era too. (72-79)
Sometime in 1980 ford chaged over to seperate locks and handles for these models, did TVR follow suit ?
Now on my Series 1 Tasmin 280, the ignition lock is from a TR7, and the pitch of the wafers in the ignition is different from the wafer pitch in the ford door locks. This means that there are no fixed plataeus for the tumblers to find, so the key fitting effectively has zero tolerance. So far I have been to three lock smiths, and none can cut me a key that works. I cannot find NOS door lock barrels anyplace. However I figured out that ford only used four different wafer sizes, so re-keying a door lock is quite easy. (that means there are only 1296 different keys for a six wafer door lock). I'm on my second ignition lock, and fourth door handle, but the used door locks all suffer from the same problem, that the keyway ridge is worn away. ( the ridge fits in the groove in the key, and stops the key from wobbling) without this feature it is very difficult to open the door, even when the lock has been wafered right.
Any encouragement will be well recieved before I just rip out the steering column and replace it and the door locks with something sensible).

Glad to see this thread - my 280i didn't come with any door keys (apparently the previous owner never got them from the owner before that!), so at some stage I'll have to get the barrels changed. As the roof is down whenever I take it out I guess it's not so much of a problem at the moment, and as the driver's side window has fallen off and disappeared into the door if anyone wants to get in they will anyway! Besides which my money is going to be far better spent fixing little things like, oh, the brakes!
I am not sure if I am understanding this, but are you saying you are using the same key in the door locks and the ignition switch?
My car has a Ford key for the doors and a BL key for the ignition.
I may have a couple of spare chrome door handles (and barrels) if your desperate.

Hi all,
I finally got new door lock cylinders,it took me ages. It turns out that the keys were the main culprit, not wear in the key way. I simply re-keyed one of my old locks to match the new keys of a new cyclinder, and they work great!
The only problem is I now have two sets! so I'm putting one set on eBay, if anyone wants to save themselves a whole bunch of time, here's the URL:
