Guys,
Any one got any ideas why my wedge has decided to vomit a fair quantity of coolant out of the over flow after a run?
Levels have been dropping a bit but have been topping up as I go.
Temp on gauge and heater all ok ?
Any ideas

William, you wont keep the expansion tank full as they find there own level by pizzing what they dont want all over the floor. How much do you loose ? How much is left in the tank when cool ? should end up about half full.

If the level is OK. Look for bubbles coming up in the expansion tank on tick over.

Another point, I also had the air disappearing around the system leaving the tank brimming but that was an air lock in the heater and "confused" pipes on the rest of the system.

Thanks BWR,
Of course you are right just seems a bit odd that it can go for a run then do it?
Probably is about just below half way.
I will keep a more vigilant eye on it.
Many Thanks

I have a catch tank for the overflow, and after cooling down most of the coolant is sucked back in....
And agree: if filling the expansion tank it will find its operative level. It also does on my Rover SD1 (not a V8, but same effect).

Just check, and do not worry (the last is normally the most difficult one - I always worry for example)

I used to lose a bit of coolant regularly until I fixed the head gaskets, if you're unlucky it might be this.

Try the easy things first as suggested above.

Yeh the dramatic answer is the old problem of the 3rd row of head bolts jacking one side of the heads up and causing problems. Cured by shiny new headgaskets and either new bolts or if you dont mind hoiking the motor out, ARP studs.

Dont go there unless you have to as it is a bit of a pain. Might be something I do next summer as a matter of maintenance, but only if I can be arsed.

Sorry to hijack,

But if you fit head studs, can you not get the head off with the engine in the car.

Thanks
