OK gents I have another question for you. Jumped in the wedge this morning for a quick blast to work, and noticed the battery warning light keeps coming on. The car started fine, but every time I put my foot on the brakes or do anything electrical, that blummin' light comes back on again. And my copy of the bible hasn't turned up yet. Anyone had anything similar, or has anyone got any ideas?

Thanks

Jonathan

Hmmm... not thought of that one. No accompanying squealing sounds though, but I'll chack it - thanks.

Check the voltage at the battery & from the alternator
- both should read approx 14.4 - battery or alternator
could be about to fail.. check cables too..

I had a similar symptom with battery light on, turned out to be a broken connection within the alternator. Appeared to work otherwise but got it reconditioned.

I had this fault on an old AL*A RO**O, turned out that the alternator bracket was rusty.

Thanks very much - looks like I've got a few things to look at (assuming the blummin' thing gets me home tonight!)

Just put the DMM on my Tas, and measured the resistance from the alternator housing to the ground point in the relay board - errm.. 60 Ohms! I think I am missing a ground strap someplace.

Well, a squealing sound started coming from the engine on the way back - looks like the fan belt is the main contender after all!
