I was getting ready to buy a Triumph Stag this autumn when I was blown away quite litterally on the M1 by a soft top 350i. I have had to rethink my purchase and now require info on the 350. I have previously had a GRP car namely a Lotus Esprit (Loads Of Trouble Usually Serious). I don't want to have the same trouble again. I know there will be dodgy electrics and can cope with that. It is trying to source all the parts other than from a Lotus Dealer. At one time he was having more of my salary than I was. The other ignomany was someone coming up to me and telling me he had the same door handles on his Marina.
I want you to convince me that I should buy a TVR and not a Stag. Also what sort of performance other than staggering will I get from a TVR. The cars look stunning. Any help or info will be greatly appreciated.

Ok Well I have only had a wedge for about 6 months and love it. Performance, std trim 350i 0 to 60 6s quoted in variouse places, bigger engined models even quicker (no suprise there then). I would imagine the TVR is lighter than the Stag. Stags prone to rear wheel torque steer under hard acceleration, so I have been told. Rover V8 better engine IMHO than triumph 3.0l V8, Stag engine more prone to overheating problems. TVR parts readily available, not sure about Stag. TVR body will not rust. Whilst the Stag sounds good the TVR sounds awsome. Wedge sound alone worth buying one for. The only thing going for the Stag that I can think of is if you need to carry more than one passenger at a time, and even then you can always make more trips with the TVR = more fun filled miles. I will throw this lot in for a starter there are loads more reasons and I am sure they will start appearing on here soon.

Buy a TVR.

The REAL problem with the Wedges is that the door handles are ex-Ford Cortina...

Don't forget the Cortina steering rack and Renault 11 lights....
On the plus side, you won't need to buy a radio, as the exhaust noise will blot it out anyway.
Just enjoy!

Hi, I have had my 350 for a few weeks now and just had it checked properly, afew bits need changing/updating. The sound as fantastic (I have only just found out the radio works. Just)When I go out the wedge always turns heads, which you should get with a Stag, however I think the wedge is seen more of a muscle car than the stag, mine are comming along know as I have a tight space out side the garage and no powersteering. Having read up about the Rover V8 I think you may find the Rover engine a good alround engine with plenty of tuning posabilities. Take out a Stag then take out a proper car!!!

Get a test drive in a V8 wedge and then post an appology for asking such a stupid question.

Danny

PS I have never driven a Stag, but somehow know you will end up in a TVR

The front indicator lights are from a mid-.life R12 not 11. The only thing that may worry you is if Marina man spots that the driving lights are from the Marina. After a test drive you won't care.

A good wedge is FUN FUN FUN. I have an Audi 2.0, a TVR Taimar & a 350.
If I'm going a long distance I always take the Wedge as I know I'll never fall asleep.
You will never regret buying a decent Wedge. Get a good one, with upgraded and adjustable suspension. Make sure all the steering and drive Uj's are good. Then put your foot down & hang on.

I had a Triumph TR6 before I bought a 400SE - at the
time I saw a Red 350i and really should have bought
that instead of the TR6 ... cutting a long story
short - the TR6 was a disaster.

It was forever in the garage (rust, clutch) - the
parts are dreadful (bad quality).

I'm on my 3rd TVR and they have all been great - it's
better to be driving them that looking at them in the garage..

Buy a TVR - you won't regret it.

Go to a montly meeting and talk to some owners.

The fact that you have called yourself KEN350 gives you away slightly. I think you have made up your mind !!! (however Ken Stag makes you sound like a porn star !!).

Get the best you can afford, and chat to us wedge loonies on here. We will keep you on the straight and narrow (with the odd powerslide thrown in).
