The new carpets plan begins!!! Help...!!!
Discussion
HEY all,
well after much thought, and plenty of jobs in progress on the beast, ive started the interior tart up i mentioned a couple of months ago...(its a great excuse to make sure i dont get tempted to use her through this crappy weather!!)
So, ive taken out the drivers seat, and started pulling it all out....ill post pictures when im not on my girlfriends pc) and show off the mess!!!
So question is, where shall i get the new carpet from? Ive found a few companies online but dont really know what stuff to use...
Also, can anyone advise about the foam...where should i get this from?
Glue wise, i guess evo-stick impact adhesive???
anyone got any photos of doing this?
Any tips apart from keeping a good sense of humour?!!

Matt, Hows it going, chap?!?
I must come and get that lift motor...
Anyhoo.
As far as glue goes, I used 10 litres of Evostik 528 from Screwfix.
Stinks. Got a bit plastered one afternoon.
Job took 2 weeks of evenings and weekends.
I bought the carpet from Martrim, they advertise in Sprint mag.
I used Jute underlay. They do a differnt underlay too, it looks like the contents of a tumbldryer filter after 10 years, and it not so goo. Get the jute underlay: its easier to work with.
In terms of carpet, I bought the orignial spec carpet that TVR used, and it was £20 a metre, and I needed 7 metres!! Budget 9 metres if youre going to redo the parcel shelf too.
Also, take note of how the carpet was cut so that you can do it the same as it was.
Mail me if you want more info, or gimme a call: I'll emial yer me phone number!
Happy wedging, Matt.

Hi Matt - when I changed my carpets I went to carpet world to find a colour to match my newly trimmed seats. The quality is better than the auto stuff and looks the business once fitted. I used high temp spray glue from martim and used some felt underlay bought from B&Q. I got the edges trimmed by the trimmer who done my seats saving a bundle of cash in the process.
If you need some tips on how to fit yr carpets drop me a line.

I used Coverdale too and found them more than suitable. I used a 100% synthetic (rubber backed, nylon pile I think) to eliminate the possibility of hessian backed wool carpets from rotting should they get wet. Also a bit cheaper.
I stripped out all the old foam too and replaced it with a layer of sound proofing, followed by a layer of slightly thinner fresh foam. Made the car a lot quiter inside by dampening the road/mechanical noise. I bought a roll of carpet from Coverdale which is exactly the right width to cover the transmission tunnel and side panels, resulting in the pile all going in the same direction (ie, downwards). There aren't too many curved pieces in the car, so slightly thicker than original carpets can be used with good effect. The 2 bulkhead, 2 floormats, and rear parcel shelf pieces were bound by a local upholstery company for 25 quid in the same grey vinyl I re-trimmed the interior in.
Some tips:- Use heat resistent glue, not evo stick. I used evo stick on the first couple of pieces, but due to the hot sun they just peeled off again over night. Using high temp adhesive solved this. You can buy a 1 litre tin for about £10 from Woolies Trim on the net.
Spead the glue on with a plastic spreader, not a brush. I used a brush to start with and half a tin of adhesive would disappear in no time. A plastic spreader is much more efficient and uses a lot less glue!
Try and get the original carpets out in one piece and use them as templates. Just make them 6 inches bigger in all directions and trim them to size when they are in the car. I found the original carpets had some huge gaps in them where they had been cut too short when the car was built, leaving lots of exposed foam in the "hidden" areas.
All in all though, a relatively easy job but quite time consuming if you want a top job. You can always do the main bits first (tunnel, sides and under seats), then carry on using the car whilst you finish the other areas. Also, buy an extra metre of carpet and make up a set of matching "winter" footwell mats for the muddy season. You can even have some rubber pads stitched in to help with the rainy days.
On my high milage car which had been previously smoked in, the original interior really did smell bad. After replacing all the leather/vinyl and carpets, it now smells really fresh and like a modern TVR does. Such a nicer place to be and really transformed the "feel" of the car.

i went for there latex backed carpet for its water resistent qualities in navy blue with light grey edging had mats made up as well got latex backed felt bought too much as it happened and 6 cans of adhesive for £215. i left them my templates as well because they didnt have any.when it stops raining i will take some photos and put them on
£40 would be a bargain rev!!
Spoke to coverdale, the women who answered isnt full time so wasnt sure, although they do list a fully trimmed car set including foot mats etc for £295 all finished and edged which seems pretty good to me...especially if you guys think i need £200 worth of carpet, and id need to cut, trim and have it bound....
Only thing is, they only list the carpet patterns for a 350i....now would that fit my 400????

£295 all in from coverdale sounds about right. By comparison, for the Chimaera (sorry to swear guys), coverdale quote £305 all in. They will also happily send you loads of colour samples and edge binding samples.Spoke to coverdale, the women who answered isnt full time so wasnt sure, although they do list a fully trimmed car set including foot mats etc for £295 all finished and edged which seems pretty good to me...especially if you guys think i need £200 worth of carpet, and id need to cut, trim and have it bound....

I'm still trying to be a cheapskate and save a few quid, but this appears to be about the going rate.
If you search the Chimaera forum, loads of people get their carpets from coverdale and nobody has said a bad word against them.
Good luck Matt.

I think there are small differences - perhaps a few inches here and there ..
My SEAC is based on the 390se and the sills are narrower than the later 400 se ..
Maybe you could either send them your old carpets or they could do a SOR and you could compare them ..

Hey Lee,
Good to see your still sticking about here!!
Well, they wont do a Sale or Return as the need to make them to order!
Problem is, i wouldnt think my carpets would be much good....hard to say...
Possibly i could send them sizes to compare....
Well - as they don't have dimensions for the model - seems they have a new business Opportunity..Good to see your still sticking about here!!
