Plenum cooling
Discussion
I don't believe there is any cooling by the water circuit of the Air Induction (AI) Plenum. Often coolant is flowed around the throttle body butterfly area to stop icing in cool damp conditions. Best way to keep AI cool is to draw cool air in through the cleaner an this is best done by siting the filter in cool air stream or low pressure zone as per SHPUBS comments on the previous thread.

Best go look at the other topic, it describes where the two water jackets are, why they were fitted in the first place and why you don't want them. Unfortunately, the main heater is built in to the plenum and cannot be disabled without major work, which is simply not worth the effort. The throttle heater is easy to disable and was left disconnected on the later cars anyway. If you're after power, a good cold air supply is essential. Getting the plenum and throttle cool is much less important.

I'm planning some sort of cooling fan arrangement with a PC fan mounted in the Vee I'll let you know if I have any success

You got any thoughts on a suitable thermal insulator to go between the valley gasket and the manifold? I'm thinking maybe some sort of plastic/poly prop sheet if I can find something with a high enough temp rating?
The best suited stuff would be something with a similar thermal expansion rate to ally and obviously as low a thermal conductivity as poss. Some kind of Phenolic resin with a fibre reiforcement (Thermal conduct 0.5W/m and Expansion of 15-30 x10-6, Ally is 240W/m & 21 to 24 x10-6 expansion) would be ideal not too sure where you could find some though...?
Bear in mind you'd have to skim the manifold to compensate for the gasket / insulator thickness. Otherwise sounds like a sound plan

only thing he wanted to know after checking for clearance was how much he had shortened the trumpets (couldn't remember off hand) but sure he had the right one available. So I am assumming that the shorter trumpets there is a suitable hole to fit that is different to normal size? Find out Monday.
Somewhere in the region of £60-80 quid but don't quote me as I was looking in the shiny display cabinet with shiny things in it at the time

Right, had it fitted. 100 miles of motoring and pull over for a jimmy and felt the plenum. Very cool. So it works. It fits between the manifold and the plenum base so all above is insulated. £60 for the part inc vat.
The trumpets are shortened appropiatly to match the lenght each tract is. So one might appear to be longer than the other but the distance from the top of the trumpet to the cylinder is the same lenght, at least that is what has been done to mine.
Pics to follow.

Long old day yesturday so I just followed the motorway. But I fancied that putting the boot down in 5th it was picking up a lot quicker, less need to change to 4th. It does feel different but I think a few more miles of making progress reqiired.......torqueier (sp)?
After getting home and checking the plenum again is was warm ish. That was down to traffic, warm air under the bonnet rather than radiated heat.

Off the shelf at DJE. He has them on hand and recomends it. All machined ready to bolt on. Already tried the spare space above the plenum for a fit. Not sure what they are made of. Try to take some pics.
Tom Walkinshaw did them first in the early 80's, i made one about 8mm thick but caused the plenum to rub against the bonnet, problem is that most TVRs are lacking any clearance between plenum and bonnet, and yet some have over 1/2 " clearance.
very good idea though.

Bit missive of me, he tried with a bit of plastacine first. About an inch off the plenum. I forgot to add my bonnet insulation is not there, as I bought it. Should have made myself clear but sure he would ask you first. It is around an inch in thickness, can measure if anyone is thinking of it.
