Just stripped the rad out of the 390 as its shot. Before I go off and get it recored, what was it from. Soon as you say its from a trevor people start adding noughts on the price. If its from an SD1 or something then thats cheaper!!!!
Any clues??

Had mine re cored last year. Guy said it was a Range Rover jobbie so he put a good one in for me. Had no problems even with the 4.5 lump.

P.S. Welcome & good luck. I'll be watching with interest. Got any piccies yet?

Range Rover / Freight Rover ..

Recore should be around £120 ~ 200 .. depending who does it.

THe SDi ones have different-shaped water pipes - I think maybe they are straight and the TVR ones have a 90 degree bend?

I have in the past used a stock SDi one but it caused a kink in the lower pipe. This kink unkinked when the system pressurised so it did work OK. Does the Rangey one have 90 elbows?

The classic RR has the 90 degree bend at the bottom.

The only problem with the classic RR ones is they don't have the cut-out for the otter switch.

Cheers lads, the rad is off for recoring at a place in Preston tomorrow. (Know where it is cant think of the name!)
What have people used for rad fans? This one has two very old looking fans of about 9" diameter. They weigh alot as well, so nows the time to replace.

Oh, pics to follow in a separate thread too.

Strewth wasnt thinking of spending that kind of money. The engine rebuild is taking more of the budget than anticipated as there was more damage to the unit than we were led to believe.
Having said that, a Pacet fan or a Kenlowe is getting on for that kinda money too.Might be sticking with the originals!

Well you don't want to get an ali rad then £400 + vat , plus they need 2 fans.

Yep. John Ravenscroft told me the same - it's best in the swan neck.

I was going to say yeah - good idea - but then I thought wouldn't it be better off in the bottom hose - isn't that the return to the engine?

This way the fan is used less on a cold day.

I was told that it's better to measure the temperature as close to the engine as possible; hence why the Griff has the sensor in the engine. The water circulates quite quickly so you'll still use the fan less on a cold day.
