The shocks were originally Konis made for TVR which I think are no longer available, I would suggest AVO's as a reasonably priced replacement.

The originals were blue, non-adjustable and made by Armstrong who got bought out by Monroe and are not available. People tried adjustable Spax (yellow, early 1990s) for a while but there were problems with them leaking. Konis (red,) are very good but take a long time to adjust. Avos (also red) have been known to be too stiff and cause other suspension parts to break. You should still be able to get Konis; I think that they are worth hunting down. Spax may be ok by now. Raceline are cheap but I don't know anyone with them. (I have had Armstrong, (twice) Avo and Koni.)

I suppse you'll be asking about springs next. Do a search first, there's a thread on wedge springs. You need to decide whether to set the car up for road or track as the rates vary enormously (140 to 280 lbs/in.) Good luck.

I ran AVOs on the 520 for several years and not a single suspension problem with them. Sure you are not getting confused with Nitrons which had a bad reliability record initially with the Tasmin racers.

If he is on a budget, I have a set of koni's which have done 1000 miles. I have replaced them with avo's, to allow the adjustable ride height.
If he is interested make me an offer.

I put adjustable rear AVO's and standard springs on the rear of my 350 about 6 years ago, 20k miles. 1 AVO has just broken causing the spring on that side to collapse. I am replacing both sides with new Speadline shocks and 400 springs from RT Racing (Wedge Automotive)If my old springs will be of use let me know and we should be able to arrange something.

A friend of mine has a used set of Tuscan coilovers, left over from his Nitron upgrade, just wondered if it would be complete lunacy to try to fit them to my 280i Wedge. - jim
