Think I may have to renew the rockwool in the silencer for a start to quieten down this beast , where and how much is a tailpipe type noise restricter going to be ,its got to bring her down to around 98db's !

Grandprix Racewear have a range of soundtrap trackday silencers in their catalogue, but not online for some reason!

If I find the catalogue, I will post a price, but I think they're about £130

Not pretty, but hopefully effective! I've been playing aroud with track silencing myself recently. This is cobbled together with two ACT track silencers.

Combine - you car was around the same db as mine - I made an insert for the tailpipe that reduced the noise by over 10db but I'm still not near 98db at 4K revs..

Think it's around 103 db .. I'll lookup the figure at home this evening.

For a mates car (mitsi Evo 6) we used an extra exhaust can bolted on to the existing tail pipe. a bit like this http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/products/ProductDeta...

Not great for looks ie a big pipe sicking out the back, but did the job and cheapish.

on a SE wedge you could take the crome end pip off and then fit this, as this would stop it sticking out so far.

A trackday silencer came with the car - thanks Mark - not sure what db's it will bring her down to , but am slightly worried also about the ability of the elastic rope that attaches from said track silencer to the inside of the boot , might fall off at 100 plus or over a bump ! Is it possible to get a v8 wedge down to around 98- 100db's ? http://www.actproducts.co.uk/trackdays.php Just found this , £62 for something that looks good , is garanteed to quieten her to the required db level , and you don't loose power , ' sounds' too good to be true , worth a phone call !

They would be good if they did a wedge version.

I don't think you will bring it down over 10db .. if so it will need to be a big box.

Only solution is to fit a std middle silencer and a trackday insert when needed..smile

I have one made by Tower View a few years ago, for my 400SE. I certainly brings the level down under 95db on a drive by type test. Was about £65 IIRC.

Fitted the one that came with the car , seems to be ok , will post a pic , a piece of string holds it steady and ties onto a brace in the boot .

THe trouble is the inserts will only remove so many db's and when it starts as loud as combines and mine - well it really has very little chance of making a trackday 98db.

Mine was something like 118db @ 4K revs and combines was louder than that at the same revs.

Looks like a bulls head , seems to quieten her down considerably , helps that the two pipes are pointing down ie away from microphones , need to get it sound tested now .

I think when I last checked mine with a meter it was 115db at .5m at 4.5K rpm, so not as loud as a SEAC to start with.

Combine, isn't there a risk that the nylon rope support will melt?

Yes ! Just a temporary tie up , think it needs an elastic bunjie type thing with metal hooks on the ends .

When the car was a 4.5 injection, used to have to use a Towerview insert PLUS a Merlin motorsport one that fits on the end of the tailpipe. Nowhere near the extra weight and ugliness (not that that matters much) etc of the ACT ones. Used to bring the 450 down from over 113db to only just under 100 at Castle Coombe.

However, ever since the new engine (not so new anymore) and conversion to carbs and increase in noise, the same combination completely stifled the power/performance of the car. So, solution is now that I only do the tracks where there are no noise limits or the testers aren't looking at the real revs they are testing at wink

I'd look at the Merlin ones, they were very efficient but probably not enough to get you down under 100db.
