Hi

Advice needed!
Hoping to take the engine out of one of my "Wedges" this weekend, so it can go for a respray, back to it's original colour!
Has any one taken the engine and gearbox out as one unit or do they have to come out seperatly!
Plus are there any problems I need to be aware of!

Thanks
Andy

Yes you can take out in one piece.
Biggest problem is, if you use an engine hoist the reach causes a problem. With the long tazzer front you need a very long reach.

Yes can be done but I prefer to split them - it just makes life easier.

A few have done it - myself included but you do need a lot of lift and it even helps to remove the wheels off the car to drop the body down a few inches..

Better off raising the back so that you have the clearance to slide the hoist under the front of the car.

A second pair of hands is also useful.

I've done it in one piece. Agree with Mr. Pistolar about the reach - well you need a combination of half a ton at full reach, 1.2m from recollection, check the hoist specs. That usually means a 2 ton hoist (2 tons at short reach).

Chaps feel free to correct the above!

Andy,

Done this twice on different S2 350's... Mine came out complete with manifolds attached, only removed starter. Ditto comments about weight, reach of lift and raising rear of car.

On the second car we had to remove the passenger side manifold as well as the starter before it came out.

Not especially difficult, or that time consuming, just make sure you have a good quality hoist and some one to lend a hand. Putting it back in CAN be done on your own... Just bear in mind that the whole drive train weighs 300-400KG.

Now you only need to work out what to do the rest of the weekend!

Are you sure about 300-400KG
Me and my bro put the race engine and gearbox in by hand. (and we both weigh less that 10 stone)
The engine was stripped of all internals, and externals, though
