Hello Guys,

I've just got myself a nice shiny recon radiator, but having fitted it I can't find anywhere to mount the fan. The old fan had four arms, which were screwed to the radiator suround with self tappers - it seemed a bit Heath Robinson at the time!! I assume there should be some form of bracket to hold the fan, but it is not obvious where it sits on the body, radiator, chassis or wherever. I've looked in the Bible but there is no reference and no photo. Can anyone help?

There should be a flat plate top and bottom a bit like a truncated triangle. I think they bolt into captive nuts; I can't remember properly. Later Wedges often had a plastic cowling.

With two rods going top to bottom what the fan assembly bolts to.

Do the flat plates bolt on to the rad or to the bodywork? Mine have obviously fallen of at some stage?!?!

They bolt to the top and bottom planes of the rad.. The bars (6mm dia?) have a threaded length at top and bottom. The plate is about 15" long and 3" wide. My car is not with me at the moment so this is all from memory. The plates have to be attached before you fit the rad.

I hardly think it's critical. As long as it's rigid, and the fan sits far enough from the rad that the blades won't chew it, that should be OK. A cowling would help direct the air though. My old Tasmin had no cowling, and the fan seemed to waste most of its efforts just churning up the air in the engine bay.

Many thanks for the information. Having got the bl*?dy rad in the nose, I don't fancy the idea of taking it out again - maybe next time, when the otter leaks! I've fibreglassed a bracket into the return of the nose under the bonnet and attached the other to the front chassis cross member. The top is held with a rubber washer and the bottom with anti-roll bar bushes, with the centre taken out. Hopefully this will give enough flex between the two and still hold the fan steady.

A test drive tonight before I put the bonnet and headlight back on!
