Pannel Switch???
Discussion
Okay - I guess I'm being stupid but what does the Panel switch do? The switch is located in the central console next to the window switch on the passenger side of the car (350i). I orginally thought it was to turn on and off the dash lighting...but if it is...it doesn't work!

It's not the driving lamp toggle is it? This will only work when the headlmaps are on full beam.
However I can't check on mine as I junked the original dash about 3 years ago and can't remember the original layout.
Bear in mind that the wiring on these cars has a tendency to differ from car to car.

My old 280i FHC had 4 switches on the pannel behind the gearstick, 2 for the windows, 1 for the interior lights under the dash and the last one controlled the illuminated dash panel so you could see the clocks in the dark either with them on, on half brightness and off completely. Must admit there was little difference between on full and on half and not much between that and completely off to be honest, and thats if you could see the dials behind the condensation on the dials !!! Do not worry about it is my advice, though you can do one of three things:-
1/ do not drive the car at night
2/ get all the dials redone in brail !!
3/ use it as a spare switch to operate those front mounted machine guns you always promised yourself.
