Gentlemen,

I am looking for an alternative place to get the wedge serviced now that Tower View are no more. I live in Herts / North London borders and would ideally like to find a trustworthy independant in the area who knows thier way round a wedge.

Any suggestions ??

Dave

I think Otfords are recommended by many as being reasonable and very good.. but are in East Anglia

Tchniques are in Stotfold - may be the closest 01462 835500

Or PRWood at West Cliff on Sea 01702 33 77 35

or Leven at Basildon 01268 281611

Leven will not service a wedge.

I have heard good things about TVR Barnet, they are not much further.

Also not a TVR indy, but a good General Service center.
MasterTec in gallows corner.
The owner Mike has a Cerbra, he is also a part of my Race Team, and looks after my 400SE on the stuff I can't do. 01708 374 222

TVR Barnet are by far the nearest to me but I seem to remember hearing that they are not that good with the older cars like ours. Can anyone comment?

Yellow wedge take's his there all the time.

Plus they have been going for at least 20 years so should know the older stuff, if they have any old staff.

They did some work on my car, but that was a long time ago.

I had this dilemma in March, having used Tower View for quite a few years on the trot. I decided to use Fernhurst again (I had used them in the past with my previous wedge)for the MOT and service. They also sorted out my broken umbrella handbrake mechanism! I'll be using them again, but they might not be local enough for you.

I'd take my car to the TVR centre in Barnet - nice guys who want to provide a good service. I tried D Batty a couple of years ago...never again.

Thats quite interesting...

i live about 10 mina from fernhurst, and been there twice for a look and both times ive been asked 'so whats that your driving!'

Also, asked a few questions over the phone re what parts to buy and they were never sure exactly what my car was....weired!

Think ill save the beer tokens and do it myself! the wedge is possibly the easiest car to service in the world!

Barnet weren't much good 15 years ago when wedges were still current! Maybe Mark going there will improve things.

I use Offord - good value, if a little out of your way. You'll get a courtesy Saab though.

The place at Stansted is phenominally expensive - about £700 when I last asked. Never used them (for obvious reasons!)

Is that the castle place .. had some unfavourable comments about them. Think they prefer new TVR's.

Hi Dave, just had my 400 serviced at Barnet. Can only recommend the guys there. Martin & Phil are top boys who go out of there way for you.
Certainly no issues with 'older' TVR's.
The service i had was a big 36,000 miler.. inc coolant flush/change.
Can be a little on the expensive side but you get waht you pay for.

Hopefully catch up soon mate - now i'm back as a wedger. biggrin

When you bringing it out then Wayne?

Rev has proposed a regular monthly meet on the first Weds or something like that, perhaps one could be over your direction where DP and Wedgie400 also hang out? You guys need to research some suitable establishments with safe parking and preferably outdoor seating with attractive views. Busty barmaids are always a bonus toowink

Hey Stever, believe me i'm itching to get out in her but whilst service was done i was told UJ's need doing and some front bushes... has to wait as we are off on hol's in a few weeks. If i spend another penny on the Wedge Kate will kill me!
But i am hoping to appeal to her better side.... just have to find it.hehe
Defo on the meet up - driving

why not still use Dave Wallis from Tower View? He'll still collect cars from Herts (free of charge) and return them. His labour rates have stayed the same as when at TV but obviously with the lower overheads of working from home up in Norfolk he can afford to provide the collection/delivery service.

Mark didn't (unless things have changed) go to Barnet. He was originally at Barnet before joining Tower View over 14 years ago. When he left Tower View, the last time I saw him, he was working for P.R.Wood - their website implies this is still true http://www.prwood.webeden.co.uk/#/companyprofile/4...

Wayne, hopefully catch up at one of Rev's new monthly meets. Can I also ask which back box you had on the white wedge as i loved the noise that car made and wouldnt mind fitting the same box on my car while its in for servicing?

The exhaust centre box was ordered from Tim at ACT.
Described as a sports system.

I ordered another for my current 400 which was fitted when it was serviced at Barnet recently.
Doesn't sound exactly the same as my old wedge as being a hotwire i'm missing the pops/bangs!
Shame.

Catch up soon. driving
