Discussion
Hi all,
Juts having a little think (and i should be fast asleep dreaming of work tomorrow as its a school night!) what bulbs type/fitment do the 400's take?
Im considering putting xenons in the wedge so i can really see at night and get that lovely ice real blue light!
anyone done this?
Cheers all

The law is as weird as you would expect, basically they are all illegal,BUT,they cannot ban foreign cars that have european approval,so they are allowed, it follows that if you were to take the lamps out of a type approved foreign car they would be legal,so the first step for a kit to be legal is for the headlamop part of the kit to have the manufacturers name and e- marked to comply with ECE98(the headlamp is the glass, relector, and bulb). Then when fitted to the vehicle it must have headlamp cleaning and self levelling.Tempus

I have and there is a noticeable difference...
Ah, so which kit did you go for? What power rating? 8000 seems to be a popular choice!Do they look much better as well?
Thanks in advance!

Xenon, are only legal if you have self leveling headlights.
due to the shaky nature of the wedge lights not a good idea.
You could have put in higher rating H4 bulbs, this will give you a bit more light, but also not legal.
Other option is to fit Twin Hella's

Was that a complicated job....the wiring especially ?due to the shaky nature of the wedge lights not a good idea.

They look the business too.

It was a pain to get them to fit.
Also not show in the Pic, is the Carbon Fibre front covers so you can't see the adjuster screws.
Took me about 30 hours in total, and about £300
Also the H4 Xenon, are not real Xenon hight voltage, they are just standard H4 bulbs with a different Gas in them, they can give a small improvement but not much, these are totally leagal though as long as you get the correct wattage and E marks.
Some of the cheaper ones don't have E marks and you can get a fine, also you won't pass an MOT if they don't have the E Marks.
Another option maybe to re-wire the driving lamps so you can have manual control of them, and have them on with out having to go full beam.

Thanks for explaining...something to consider.
I thought it was a legal requirement to have the 'driving lights' only able to come on with the heads (whether 'driving' type or fogs).
I've always been a bit confused about the laws on this.
It depends if they are driving lights or fog lights, also the rules changed over the years.I thought it was a legal requirement to have the 'driving lights' only able to come on with the heads (whether 'driving' type or fogs).

So I'm sure you could get away with it, unless your MOT station is a right anorack.
