Being some what new to this group although owning my 89 350 for a couple of years now a few questions to start of with
After putting in 3 dim dip relays for all 3 to fail on me I now run with out this unit. This means that when I have side lights on the headlights pop up but no lights on. What wire can I amend to stop the headlights popping up on side light position but still pop up on main position ?
Also fitted a set of konis or spax (red) adjustables last year and the front right has failed on me after only 5 - 6 k. Is this common and does any one know a reasonable place to purchase 1 again
Also anyone know of a decent place near the Reading area for servicing / paint jobs

As I understand the pop-up is controlled by two diodes (one for Main/flash and the other for Dip beams). If you remove the Dip beam diode I would think that the pods would only rise on selection of Main beam/flash.
Of course, someone will tell me how wrong I am, and I could be.
Whatever, YMMV.

There's an updated version of that article just waiting for Mike Bressington to come back to earth and update the site. ;-) It describes the workings of the later cars (with fog/ driving lamps as well). My 390 uses SEVEN relays just to control the lights
and that was before some idiot added two more rather than utilise what was already there...
Dim-dip was one of those idiotic ideas that the car legislators force upon us once in a while: on my Skoda it worked fine, but I know people with other makes that didn't. Basically it just adds a big resistor in series with the dipped beams when you put the sidelights on. If you have uprated bulbs it may be too much for the resistors, hence yours failed. I can probably work out a 'patch' (to borrow a computer term ;-) for you.

My dim-dip has also recently stopped working(though the headlamps still pop up and bumper side-lights come on)Traced the fault back to behind bulk-head so it could be the resistor -where is it located because I only remeber seeing relays and one diode last time I looked at the board...
Mine is located under glove box above the ecu and fuses, little box that said lucus on it. got very hot and then must have gone open circuit as the main lights stayed on even with the switches off ! Taking it out completely has made no difference as all the lights still funcion normally except for the dim head lamps on side light position
