When i put my foot down the car loses power at 4000RPM and I get nothing until I lift my foot off to about half way at which point she will continue to rev, if I put my foot back down she just stops again.

Any ideas???So embarrassed as I was showing off to a friend who owns a bkster.

Cheers Mike

They all do that when you're showing off sir ...it's called 'sod's 3rd law of anti-motion'. hehe

Seriously though....I haven't a clue....apart from fuel starvation ? spark starvation ?

Mike,
Partially blocked fuel filter. When was it last changed? I had a very similar problem on a 260Z I used to own.

I've just had a similar problem on the 350i. Mine started coughing and farting above 4K; turned out to be the dizzy cap. Changed it for a Lucas one, all running fine now.

As well as the other suggestions - check the wires under the bonnet .. maybe something is just loose.

Sounds like it needs a good service !

Hey Mike,

Sounds silly but have you changed the leads recently? I was getting random misfires and changed plugs, leads, dizzy + rotor and it vanished....

Cant do any harm and its all about 50 notes...good luck and get it sorted soon for a blast!!!

Take a look at the motor running in the dark .. you can see any sparks that should not be there that way !

Cheers guys,

I am gonna get a new fuel filter, leads plugs rotor and dizzy, new induction kit too as I noticed a bit of gunge at the entrance to the plenum, thinking the seal is poor around the air filter. Thank you VISA.

Any ideas on how much a coil is? are they all local motor factor parts and are they listed on the wedge pages?

That gunge sounds like the stuff that goes up the crankcase breather and into the side of the plenum. It might imply that the pipework/flame trap needs a good clean - if it gets totally gunked you can get crankcase pressurisation and oil leaks. This shouldn't affect power, though.

Another problem might be fuel pressure due to pump or regulator - get that checked after the new filter is installed.
