Wedge kind of packed up the other day. Rescue tried everything with the electrics. The guy was very confused as was i, when the earth strip from the coil to the rocker cover was reading 11.50 volts.

Any Ideas Guys.

Shortcut to earth somewhere? And/or:
- Check the positive side of the battery cable for problems.
- Check positive lead to the starter motor, or is the starter getting hot without using it? Starter motor has then somewhere an internal shortcut.
- Alternator behaving badly? Red glowing light on the dash with ignition off or while driving could be one of the possible indications, as well as the battery losing charge quickly.
In all cases it should drain the battery quickly as it could basically be shortcutted.....
- Any other shortcut (I know no help) where positive wires are shortcutting to earths/negative due to insulation of positive leads failing (shaving of wires could cause this where wires are 'on the move' when the wedge is in use on the road or damaged due to anything.

Hoping it can be a start instead of a opening a can of worms,

Rob

Could be altenator - voltage control or diodes?

You say the earth is below 12v - what is battery voltage - you would expect bettery to be slightly above coil earth ?

When I read threads like these - makes me glad I dumped the Efi for a Carb. Had exactly the same problem would have cost me a fortune to locate the fault if using an auto electrician...
