My mother in law's Tasmin hood is a faded beige colour; she is hoping to re-dye it rather than replace it.

One thing she is keen on doing is changing the roof colour to black. Has anyone ever tried changing the hood colour using Renovo's product? I suspect it's not a good idea as you need perfect coverage, but any real world experience would be appreciated.

Renovo is very inexpensive compared to a new roof, but it isn't cheap - if this doesn't work out then the Renovo will be money thrown away, as a new roof will need to quickly be installed.

Cheers,

Rob.

I've used black Renovo on my black hood and although this works well with two coats I would be supprised if it could change a beige hood universally black - or you might have to use lots of coats. You could try contacting Renovo to see what they say.

Look forward to hearing the results - although I suspect the difference between black and blue is more forgiving than the difference between beige and black.

Good luck!

My gut feeling is that it won't be a success - and I am with you, lot's of coats - I will take your advice and ping Renovo on it.

Perhaps you could be lucky with beige. My roof is that colour at the moment, but originally it was black. Several people with such faded 'black' have been able to put it back to a nice like new black. I won't try it myself as it is too far gone (rips etc.) and will it have replaced probably next year. As mentioned before, contact Renovo (they probably won't guarantee anything) and if positive feedback give it a go. Think that preparation and cleaning is the first step of a quality result, next to apply it evenly.

Yep been there done that etc.

The 520SE was originally a faded brown/beige. Changed it to black with a couple of coats of Renovo. Worth cleaning first and applying several coats to get the colour depth and uniformity though.

me too.... 2 coats did it. Made a huge difference. Lasted the 3 years I had the car and was still looking good.

One problem I noticed is that the more coats you give it, the more 'crusty' the hood starts to look.

I would keep it to two coats max in one go, then leave it a few months at least if it needs another coat - preferably 6 months.

Try using a shoe or upholstery dye, probably much cheaper. I use black shoe polish to keep the roof black, and the rear screen clear with metal polish.
