Quick one to save me climbing in the loft and digging: what's the recommended oil for the LSD on the wedges?
You know the one... Salisbury, ex-Jag, 3.54:1 ratio, inboard brakes...do I have to draw a picture?

Come on, come on, I haven't got all night...

hold your horses
non limited slip diff useSAE90 hypoid oil such as TH10 or Duckhams Hypoid 90S.
Powerlock type use Duckhams Hypoid 90DL (also an SAE90 spec oil.)

hope that helps
If it doesn't get in the loft you lazy sod

Ian, spent a while looking into this a few weeks ago. Eventually decided on Millers CRX LS ENDURO 80W/140
Tried to get the genuine Jag stuff but they wanted about £50 for 4 litres minimum quantity. Got the millers from Demon Tweeks, couldn't find it anywhere else. Don't bother with Halford etc.
PS done anything with the motor yet???
Cheers.

When I was looking into replacing the diff oil I phoned Demon Tweeks to enquire about the Millers stuff and was advised against it due to the fact it was a competition oil and had no noise reducing properties, in fact they told me it would sound like the diff had exploded! which I thought was a bit extreme but in the end I went for Valvoline semi-synthetic lsd oil.

While on the subject of Valvoline does anyone know if the Valvoline plant on the Gateshead Quayside sells the likes of the semi-synth engine oil I've seen mentioned here before

Well, there may not be too much of a reason to panic: I drained the diff and discovered that there was in fact only slightly less than the recommended 1.6 litres in there. Closer inspection reveals that all three of the diff seals have a slight weep: I guess after 16 years and 107000 miles that's fair. Oil seems to spread further than its quantity would suggest, if that makes sense!
Another job for the winter, then.
Thanks for all the oil suggestions, chaps.

Just thought i'd poke my oar in ,so to speak,...
Why has no one thought of using Castrol Hypoy LS,which is in mine. Its the oil specified for TVR and Jag in the castrol brochure and i'm sure i've seen it in some TVR literature somewhere. Demon tweeks will sell you 5L for £19 +Vat
HTH?
