Still aiming to get the Tasmin on the road in time for BBWF - but I need some advice please...

Inside the car it's mostly just a cleaning exercise but the fabric that lines the underside of the roof is sagging down into the car and rests on top of your head when you get in (trust me, that's not pelasant!).

Can anyone tell me what I should use to secure it back in place? I was thinking of Spraymount seeing as I already have a can of that but I'd rather to it properly if someone can tell me what to get.

Any advice, gratefully received.

Cheers,
MrsFFG

Is the material in a rescu(able) condition, or are you looking to replace?

If it's ok as is i would say maybe that you are on the right lines with some of that spray mount glue.

Or new material, cut to shape, practice mounting/laying on out on up turned roof...and glue it down.

Not something i have done before, but have heard of people doing similar.

Sorry if no help. Bound to be someone with greater knowledge along any...second.

Yeah, the fabric looks reusable. It's a bit thin so it might need to be replaced at some point but just not at the moment.

It's a fixed head 280i that we've got so I won't have luxury of removing the roof and doing it upside down!

Good point. silly

There is a range of spray glues on the 3M website (edited to 1st post).

Failing all this i wounder if it would be all that expansive having a pro do it?

I haven't sat in it yet but can see it through the window!!!
Can't imagine its a difficult job but it's only a thin fabric so the glue may show through.

I had the same problem with my 350i and I used the fabric adhesive type stuff that you use for invisible mending/hemming trousers etc. Was a bit more fiddley than spray adhesive but gave a pretty secure bond and didn't show through the fabric....mind be more difficult on your car as you cannot remove the roof!

Washing it's a good idea but I'm not sure it would survive - it's worn very thin. I suppose I could hand wash it rather than sticking it in the machine...

Would you believe, I've already got some of this stuff but I've never used it! Mind you, we've moved house since I bought it so I'll have to see if I can find it. No doubt it's in a box - really helpful that is!

you may want to make a mould of the roof with polystyrene, and then you can use that to sandwich the lining to the roof, while the glue Set's

I just took the body off.

Then rolled the chassis up onto the garage wall.

or do it the council estate way, and roll it onto some old mattresseswink

Thanks for all the advice.

All being well I'll be trying to get the roof fabric out of the car tomorrow to give it a wash - just hope it doesn't shrink!

I'll let you know how I get on.

This is meant to be my 'winter' car as I use my Griff every day at the minute. I'm guessing it'll be a bit wierd drving a car with a fixed roof... we'll have to wait and see...
