Well, after seeing a red 350SE parked up in Ilkley (hello to whoevers that was, lovely looking car) for around a month last year started my interest in Wedges, the first time I heard one fire up I knew I needed a piece of the action!

I have been to see 4 examples so far, but and I'm taken with two of those but I really want to see a 400SE before taking the plunge.

Unfortunatley it seems the only example within my budget of £6k is around a 14 hour round trip away! If anybody knows of a 400SE for sale in and around the Yorkshire area please let me know.

PS- Is it going to be unrealistic to find a car without the Gel coat cracks/crazing within my budget?

Mine is pretty good on the crack front. Apart from when I cracked the front on a crash barrier.

ditto, dont worry about what you can see straight away, if you can se it then its easier to fix!!

On mine (which when i bought her was in your price bracket) ive spent a lot of money and especially time fixing the major things which just DO go wrong!

Amongst others, rear brakes, Exhaust manifolds and carpets have left me with emotional (and some physical!!!) scars!

Dont let me put you off, but just look at the car and not its paint...

Also, remember its a 20 year old car. A decent one has been used, and used means marks!

If you ever travel south your more than welcome to look at mine

I should have qualified my Q about bodywork.

I have had a thourough look at all of the examples i have seen so far, and the condition of the chassis in particular has varied tremendously, with some looking almost factory fresh whilst others looked like they could do with some serious wire brushing (and then no doubt plenty of welding) and repainting which is one job I really do not fancy.

Matt-Man, what is the issue with exhaust manifolds? Thats a new one to me, unless it is manifold-chassis member interaction, which i have noticed on one of the cars I had a look at.

They tend to crack where the individual pipes join up.

Ditto.

Welded mine up. They'll crack again eventually. Usually along the side of the weld in the Heat Affected Zone (HAZ) where the metal becomes embrittled during cooling.

also depends on what you mean by none.

The only ones on my are on the light pods. also some of the laquare has rubbed off on the inner arch where the bonnet has caught it.

but mine has only done 32,000 miles.

And you not going to get one like mine for 6k.

But as said the paint job should be one of you least worries.
