Here I am again.

Friend (it's not me honest) has now managed to crack the nearside exhaust manifold. I assume it's off an early 2.8 Capri as most other parts seem to be.

I have rung every local scrapyard and even searched the web, all to no avail.(usually results in huge amounts of laughter when I mention Capri, even more if I add TVR. Why is this?) Can anyone out there help in the Somerset area? as he wants to fix it this weekend

Is it too far gone to do a temporary repair with a welder

Holts Exhaust Bandage will do an effedctive repair for a thousand miles or so. I had mine welded after that and, surprisingly, it has held for over 4000 miles.

i dont think the manifolds on a 280 tasmin are capri. You can get them welded, the only way i know of is by taking the parts to a blacksmith who puts the parts in the coals until red hot, takes them out for welding then returns to coals to cool overnight. It worked for me

They are NOT ford they are specific to TVR

As far as I recall, only the O/S manifold was cast specifically for TVR (it has a TVR logo cast in). The N/S was standard as far as I could tell on my Tasmin, HOWEVER I have heard that the N/S was cut'n'shut in some way, though I couldn't tell where.
Some Tasmins used the Ford manifolds, swapped round so they exited pointing forward, and had different exhaust downpipes.
You can weld cast iron with a MIG welder if you grind the crack deep and wide to get a good clean surface. Gas welding is more difficult.

I got some stainless steel manifolds from Peninsula. Can't give you a price as it was in with a shed load of other work.

I also managed to break the ford nearside manifold on my 2.8, at the time I thought " glad I didn't break the TVR one, a ford part should be easy to replace" - how wrong I was.
As far as I could tell (extensive scrapyard searching) this manifold has never been used on any of the 2.8 engined cars, someone suggested it could be from one of the V4 engined fords but I have never found one to check.
I ended up making one from mild steel ( flanges are available from Demon Tweeks ), it amazingly is still functioning 3 or 4 years later, although probaly not much longer.

Treat yourself to stainless steel ones.

Hmmm... could have been as used on the 2.3 V6 Cortina? The 2.3 was rare enough...

Hi chaps

Thanks for your input. It is proving difficult to obtain a 2.8i manifold. The tubular ones from Peninsula are about £180 as we enquired in the week. Unfortunatley the whole thing may be irrelavant as his wedge was rear ended by a Metro today (on the way back from Peninsula would you believe). He is now waiting for the insurance to sort it out. May be bent though as it was crabbing like hell for the rest of the journey.

Cheers again. Ed

Sorry to hear about it. It sems like I've heard of a quite few reart enders over recent weeks. Are other drivers transfixed by the Wedge or doe Wedges just have better brakes than other cars?

If you are still after the manifolds off a 2.8 V6 Capri or Granada drop me a line
