HT Leads on Dist Cap

I have just fitted a new dist. cap and followed the diagram in 'the bible' which clearly shows the retaining clips between leads 1 and 8 and 6 and 5. My local TVR specialist has moved it round 1 position clockwise so the clips are between 1 and 2 and 3 and 6, which is this right?

This might be because he was running out of room to adjust the timing. It might be worth asking him what the advance is looking like, and whether he's advanced the static timing because the vacuum and/or mechanical advance aren't working properly.

This still won't explain your particular problems, as the lack of advance would be noticeable on Wide Open Throttle too.
