Ive taken the PAS pipes off my 390SE. Its got the Supra rack (late one).

Which way round do the pipes go?? If I get it wrong I suspect I will have the wheel ripped out of my hands the moment I move it and damage the steering!

Twonk...

PLease help if you have pictures or any information that might help me get them back on again the right way round!

if it is th esame as mine you should have 2 different sort of connections, and although the look the same size , they aren't and will onlt go on one way.

Good man!

Thankyou very much.

If you are able to post a picture of the offending area, that would be even better. Dont worry if its a pain to do!

I know a little about hydraulics (did aero engineering at Uni), and if those pipes go the wrong way round, the moment that torque link in the rack valve is twisted by a smidge of steering wheel movement, the steering wheel will get torn out of my hands and the steering may slam hard over to the stops, UNLESS the designers put check valves in the control valve to stop muppets like me attempting to put the pipes on the wrong way around!

Broken thumbs anyone?!?

Can't get under the front at the moment to confirm but agree with previous comment.
The high pressure pipe is a 90deg union connection at both ends and the lower pressure return is a push on & jubilee. At the pump (top connection is high press & female threaded for union and lower is a male spigot for push on.

Hope this helps - if not which connection is the problem - pump or rack ?

I had a quick look but I couldn't take any pics - too many things in the way.

It struck me that if there are only two ways of putting it back together, then try the most obvious one (the hoses might naturally fall into place one way rather than t'other), and if that doesn't work then swap them over.

If you turn the pump by hand or only use the starter motor then there won't be much chance of knackering anything.

What - the chassis, or my camera (it's titanium, so it won't rust anyway).

Yeah I just nipped up the sump bolts while I was under there going the clutch, which might help with the general gunge, but the supercharger oil drips a little bit (over the steering pulley too - grrr).
