Hi,
My 350 FHC +2 sadly failed its MOT on a whole host of bits - Oh dear!
Anyone know from which cars these bits were sourced and where to get them now?

Front brake pads (locking device missing)
Offside (rack extension) ball joint
Real wheel bearings

The parking brake was said to have 'no reserve travel' and that it's 'efficiency was below requirements'. (Does this mean that the cable has stretched too much or that there is something wrong with the mechanism? I am a bit fed up because it holds on my quite steep drive when parked.)

I also had 'steering column top mounting bracket insecure'. When I had a look it was no worse than other Tasmins I have had. All the ones I have driven have some play if you lean on them hard enough. Anyone have any suggestions?

I am hoping to get the car back on the road quickly so any helpful ideas will be gratefully received.

Cheers

The first one loks easy - possibly just the retaining pin or even the little clip that goes through the small hole in it, you caan just use a split pin if it's the clip, otherwise it's probab;y a ford cortina caliper, get the pins from one of them. I might even have a couple spare.

You want to clarify if they mean the outer ball joint next to the wheel or the rack end ball, first one is easy, second one not so sure.

Rear wheel bearings come up on Ebay quite a lot but you need to make sure they have grease seals with them. Or RT in sheffield could help. Are they floppy or noisy too? Just for the MOT you could torque up the hub nut a little bit, if they aren't noisy, that will take out the slack. Take it to about 150lbf - it will be obvious if they are slack.

Were the rest of the things just advisory?

The handbrake is best adjusted at the calipers but by the sounds of it you have it OK. You could try cheating by cleaning off the discs and pads with Trichloroethelyne in situ, which will degrease them.

Are they referring to the steering bush - where the column goes through the bulkhead? Or the bracket that the sterring wheel is on?

To be honest the list doesnt sound too bad - mainly small things though if you have to replace the wheel bearings you might need a 10 ton press.

Thanks Adam,
That's put me in a more positive frame of mind! (Actually the full list was a page and a half long - with all sorts of stuff about the front lights, side lights and tell tales too; but I think that I have sorted most of those now.)

It was a bit of a double-whammy because I have just had to say goodbye to my old Taz today(a black 2.8i FHC+2)whcih was running fine. "What have I done?" was the phrase that sprang to mind. It is very odd seeing someone else driving off in your Tiv. At least he had a big grin on his face when he went under our local tunnel.

I'll have a look at the bits you have mentioned.

(The steering play seems to be to do with the bracket itself and where it is attached. The handbrake is as high as it will go and the 'efficeincy' is recorded at only 12%.
I have one light pod which wobbles when up - I assume because it isn't high enough and the rubber bit isn't in contact with the body when it is up. For now I have just adjusted the link so that it is firm when on but now it doesn't sit flush when down. I must be missing something.)

Thanks for your ideas and help.

You were right about the first one - just missing the clips to stop the brake pad pins working loose.

Does anyone know what the rear bearings are from on the 350?
I have tried ordering some from a TVR supplier but they haven't turned up and so I looked in the Wedge pages which said Granada Mk2.
Bought some - car is sitting on the ramp of a local garage - and they are too small!
Any ideas?

Never heard of Wedges with anything but Granada MK2 rear bearing - but you need an additional grease seal as a Granny kit only has 1 seal.
Check you have the right Kit - the inner race is 'one piece'

Hope you get sorted
David
