Hi guys - just fitted a set of SH Coilovers on the front - haven't road tested them yet. Installation was an interesting affair. The drivers side took 2.5 hours with the lower wishbone in place - I had to cut the upper mount thread to squeeze it under the turret. The passenger side took 30 minutes with the wishbone previously removed. I assembled everything as per the instructions and jacked the whole lot into position.

A great looking upgrade with excellent support from Steve

Now for the rears.....

GV - With all four wheels on reasonably level ground could you measure the length of the spring and the number & size of the gaps? Also if you have the time could you do the same three measurements with the front in the air (full droop).
What was your ride height before and after?

I'll be eternally grateful and will buy you a beer at Wedgefest if you're going.

I'm confused about my installation but will update with tricks and tips when it's sorted.

Hi chaps

Ive just finnished fitting a compleat set of SH shocks on my SEAC.
Fitting to the rear was nice and easy to fit, the front is a nother matter.
Just a few things I think are importent about the fitting of the front,
First; at the top of the shock mount i thought the steel work supporting the shock a little thin for supporting a shock and spring conbined so i renforced the top of the pyramid with a 6mm bar welded in to take weight and shock from bumps.
Second; I had to cut the back out of the top of the bottom wishbone to allow the spring coler to clear, I think ill have to take out a little more to allow eas of ajustment as it a bit of a bug to tweek.
The only thing that ill have to think about is the way it fixed to the bottom of the lower wishbone, this coud do with been stronger.

As for ride hight, I think ive got the car slamed to much as i can barly get two fingers between the top of the wheel and the arch, as for road manners, well I have to say im very happy and have a bit of playing to do before the wedge fest, I did take photos through out the build and if any one is interested let me know.

Cheers

i would be intrested in seeing pictures of the insalation, as said in previous post i am thinking of having these on my car, also the chassis is being refurbed, and powder coated, along with all the wishbones and suspension, i do not want to start having to weld bits in or grind bits out to fit the new set up.
Any one else with information please pm me.

If the wishbone needs grinding then there is something wrong with the fitting. You should have given me a call before grinding away.

The coils and platforms fit inside the wishbone with the bottom brackets in the up position which is the way that most people fit the kit and indeed is the way I had the prototype kit on my car. You can invert them and this will significantly lower the ride height but they may foul the wishbone and to be honest for most applications, it results in a car that is a bit too low with very little ground clearance.

As for welding additional bits in or strengthening the top mounts... Again not required providing the mounts themselves are not already badly corroded or distorted. In Cambell's case, I seem to remember that they were in a pretty bad state and so while repairing them it was worth strengthening them but it is not a requirement to fit these. Again I ran them with no additional mods for several years with brackets that were nowhere near as good as distributing the load as the ones I supply and with significantly higher spring ratings - 800lb in some cases.

Guys a couple of things.

1. Ride Height Etc

My intention was always to get the suspension set up using the right right equipment by a specialist the reason being that I have replaced everything using new parts and everything is out of alignemnt. The only things I kept were the anti roll bar and wishbones. So in terms of measurements I will not be able to provide data only pics. It will be possible to adjust the springs to get a start point which is what I am aiming for.

2. Installation.

The tolerance on the brackets are tight and a trickcy to install with the lower wishbone in place - there is no need to start choppig the wishbone or to weld bits for strengthening. I found the installtion easier with the wishbone removed, assembling the setup as per the instructions and then to jack the whole lot into place. Once secured, I then used the jack to align the wishbone so I could get the bolt in - very straight forward and much easier than the old system using a spring compressor.

Like I said before, SH provides excellent support which for me is part of the package.

I realise that this is just a starting point. I just wanted some numbers to compare with my starting point. Beer offer still stands (unless you prefer Babycham?wink)

Where do I take the measurements from? By the way - Magners will do lol...

I think the best place to take the ride hight fron would be;
At the front, at the point where the lower wish bone bolts to the chassis
At the back, infront of the rear wheel where all the chassis tubes come togeather inftont of the diff frame.
I think these points would be good areas to messure from.
Im doing some more bits to the car to night, ill post my ride hights up but i know i have the car running rather low, just the way i like it hehe
wouldnt mind a full corner weight setuph

Ive checked the ride hight front and rear,
Front 5" to chassis
Rear 5.5" to chassis
the gaps between the coils are over 6mm when the car is static

With the car on level ground just turn the steering a little so you can see the spring and measure it's length and the size of the gaps with a tape measure. Then if you're feeling generous jack the car up so both front wheels are off the ground and measure the same.

Quick question for those that have successfully installed the front SH coilovers.. Which way up have you installed the bottom brackets?

I installed mine so that the bracket is inverted into the wishbone. That way you get better clearence to adjust the spring. I was able to access the adjuter very easily with an adjustable C spanner.

I'd like to have a chat if you're still going to Wedgefest.
