Does anyone have the speed/revs in top for a 'standard' jester 400SE please ?
I'm still waiting for a part for the speedo, so it would help to know how much over the limit I am. smile

The 400SX does 170mph at 6000 rpm in 5th, if that helps. I think the diff is standard.

think that if you are in 4th gear the rev counter almost mirrors the speedo, will give you a rough idea of speed.

My old 400 used to be...4th--20 mph/1000, so 5k in 4th was 100.

5th--about 25 mph/1000, so 4000 rpm was 100mph

The Griff is about the same but gets there a lot quicker.....yikes...biggrin

That's a tall diff; it sounds like the same one that I had in my 350i: 28mph/1000rpm in top or 168mph at 6000 revs (in theory,) 140mph at 5000revs is nice for cruising.

You might be right - the 350i is nearer 25mph/1000 in 5th. What's going to be the easiest way to tell for the 400SE then - borrow a GPS or use mile markers on a motorway to calibrate it.

Mine must be geared all wrong!! as does 4000 revs in 5th at 80mph, although revs to 7000 odd when pushed. Maybe my tacho is running fast!

Ahem...170mph? This is speedo talk right and not actual road speed???

Last time I checked the speedo against a GPS it was pretty much spot on - up to my GPS limit - and indeed the tacho is linear with the speedo too.

So make your own mind up ;^)

Still - it would need 98RON or better fuel, a nice cold day, top up driving, a recent service, no clutch slippage (should be OK for that now).....

Didn't it give the figures in the 280/350 handbook ? (the one I gave away rolleyes).

I reckon it's going to be more like 28 per 1,000 in top.

Maybe someone can see how many revs their 400 is doing at 60mph in top. smile

Meanwhile I'll do a bit of surfing research...blimey - something useful for a change.hehe

Not for the standard one that you thought that you had. 25mph/1000 is standard, see above; if you have the taller diff it's 28/1000 or maybe 28.3 according to adam, either way not a lot in it. Of course this is TVR so you may have none of the above :-)

3000rpm @ 80mph in the Wedge
4000rpm @ 110 - 115mph
5000rpm @ 140 - 145mph
5250rpm @ 155 mph

according to the last dyno

Mine speedo was spot on with the GPS also, it's a bit jumpy below 10mph though.

Also some people have said that the rev counter's can miss read though.

Also 25 MPH per 1000 RPM seems about right AFAICR

I've a new speedo cable fitted, but just waiting for the little gearbox cog, which has worn, so not doing anything. irked

I'll play safe and work on 25mph/1000 in top. driving
