Handbrake pads
Discussion
I'm pretty sure I know the answer to this question but here it is;
Can you change the handbrake pads without removing the handbrake calipers from off the top of the main calipers.
I'm sort of mad about this 'cos this Spring I changed the main calipers, the stopping pads, greased and lubed (and checked the handbrake innerds) put it all back together.......the car rolled down the driveway yesterday and stopped in the road
. No damage, just ego dented.
In hindsight I should have put new handbrake pads in
but they were still thick (me too evidently) Seems they are hard/glazed or eff'd. I shall try adjusting them up a bit.
While I'm here.....how does your handbrake feel.... that cable is like a hauser and does not have any "spring" which doesn't really help.

The return 'springs' are bent wires on the handbrake calipers so the handbrake always feeds dead as you describe.
Not sure how far the h'b caliper arms will retract with the springs removed, probably not enough to fit new pads.
Make sure you adjust the handbrake via the screws in the calipers and then the h/b cable. However the general opinion is that the handbrakes are cr*p, I tend to adjust mine tight for the MOT and then back off to ensure no drag.
Not sure I have helped much

Yes you can, just wind back the big adjuster screw to get enough clearance.
However it's advisable to get the calipers off anyway, because by the time you need to do this job they will need a clean up.
Undoing the h/b calipers is just 2 bolts/pins each side. Clean them up and put copperslip on the pins. Do the pads while off the car. Don't disconnect the cable.

Thanks guys,
Trusting a TVR handbrake, yea I should know better but I thought it was good
(this time)
I did think about undoing the adj. bolts but I was concerned about it coming loose inside if I went too far. May give it go, if it comes loose then I'll just pull 'em off (again).
Goona wait 'til our heat wave is over though.
Cheers.
