After having a few mails about what is the WSV thought I would explain on here to those that have not been to one of the last 4 BBWF at Ettington
WSV = or full name BBWSV Big Bad Wedge Support Vehicle -and yes I own a BBW aka my 450SE
WSV is basically an ex London Ambulance (LDV 400) that I purchased to convert into a camper to take to LeMans to provide a good base for camping
As such it came as standard with a Rover V8 in the front coupled with an auto box and twin carbs - so not the most economical version LDV ever produced
It also has air suspension at the rear along with twin wheels. Up front it has twin alternators, triple batteries but alas no siren or lights left
It was a good basis for a camper , as it had lockers, internal lights, blower system (someone took the heater) blacked out windows with blackout blinds, grab rails etc.
I striped out all the seats and fitted a seating / double bed at the back, a cooker sink unit, 90l water tank, fridge freezer and microwave and full 240 electrics to be powered onsite or by a 2.5kw gennie, and a large-ish awning on the side.
Well to cut a long story short I did all this between 1 LeMans and the 2nd BBWF, so thought I'd take it along and provide teas coffees etc for free as is the BBWF ethos
It seemed a hugh success and was a welcome relief from the rain that weekend. So from there it has been back every year to Ettington Chase and last year I even took it too LeMans with Michelle and a dog !
This WSV must weigh about 3 tons and does do upto 80 miles an hour, brakes on it are damm appaling and it handles like a boat in rough seas
If I'm lucky on a long run it can do nearly 19 mpg, but averages 12mpg. It was my intention to fit some sort of turbo diesel job, or lpg, or might even see if the hydrogen units work well on it.
Over the last few years I've had to replace various bits for the mot , but until this year nothing I could not fix my self.
It must get some strange looks as it is fully liveried with BBWF and TVR and piston heads down the side, and even Chimera ownwers wave at me when I drive it
Steve then decided to go one better and bring the company camper (SPV) and together we combine into a command centre for the Wedge Fest
so there you go the story of the WSV so far, now must go and fix the electric aerial for the radio, and fix the sat dish on correctly
