Boys & Girls, one of my friends (a regular on here but I'll let him reveal himself) has asked me if I'd go to look at a 1981 2.8 Tasmin with him.
I know the S Series inside out and backwards but I don't know wedges well and am concerned I might miss something thats a common issue on these cars.

Is there a buyers guide webpage or alternatively get typing please!

I'm assuming its chassis chassis chassis but where are the common failure points?
Outriggers presumably?

Depends on the price. wink

I bought a non-runner a few years back, that had been standing for over a year.

Look at the outriggers, especially at the back of the front wheel arch, followed by the all other visible (ie most of it) parts of the chassis.

Check that the clutch isn't on its last millimetre, as that is an engine out job.( Been there, done that).

Check that the back discs aren't shot, and that the brakes aren't locked on.
Another awkward job (just had rear discs done on my 400).

Electrics need to be in as good a shape as possible, and MOST things working, but particularly leccy fan if fitted, and windows.

Make sure headlights lift up and down.

FHC window frames tend to rot, so have a good feel.

Check for clonking driveshaft UJs.

Steering will be HEAVY.

Engine I wouldn't worry too much as they're easily and cheaply replaced/upgraded, especially if clutch needs doing anyway.

CHASSIS CHASSIS CHASSIS !

Mine by the way, passed the MOT after fitting a light bulb and freeing off the back brakes.

I hadn't even test-driven it, and had it transported home. smile

Good luck !

Outriggers are easy as the side panel is only pop rivetted on, unlike the later models which is moulded the main body.

The Seller says it had new outriggers 2 years ago and has had all new brake discs & pads, so it could be promising.

Thanks for your help guys.

  • Edited to add it has power steering as well - presumably cortina based?

Yes, Cortina (2.3 V6 I think).

- Surprised it has PAS for such an early car.

Judging by the work you're doing on your own car, can't see you missing much. wink
