Anyone have an A/C compressor with a readable label on it?
Or of course know the part number smile

Also, the expansion valve, what is it from?, part #?

My A/C works at present but the low side does not pull down as it should if it were working 100% indicating compressor has seen better days or the expansion valve is a bit clogged.

I do take the top down yes but I do like stuff to work on my carssmile

USA 280i, although I would guess they only used one type.

Thanks Ben,
Picture confirms mine is a Sandon (same body)except mine has a couple of "holes" on top for the charging fittings.

This will make it really easy to source a replacement or rebuild kit.

Cheers. (I will post part numbers when I get them)

Hi Grady,
I changed it over to 134 a few years ago.
It's pretty good on a moderately hot day, which is nice 'cos it means I can use it to go somewhere and not need a second shirtsmile then return with the top down.

The biggest improvement was putting a shut off either side of the heater core/matrix as I was getting some hot water leakage through the 20 odd year old valve. (easier than changing the valve)

But mid 90s and high humidity, black car, it still needs to be improved. Hence looking at an expansion valve change. The pressures high and low are also a bit slow to equalise after turning off which also points to the exp valve. I will probably change the compressor too as its around $220, I'll just tell the wife it's 50 Bucks.

If you intend doing yours do not buy the conversion kits, get new fittings, much better quality and less chance of leaks. Change the Drier, remove the compressor to empty the old oil, then refil 5 oz. Vacuum to check that it is air tight, then re vacuum for 30 minutes, two cans should do it. Fill 'til bubbles disapear in the sight window.
