Has anyone else had problems with the light pods ?

The pod on one side seems to have a mind of it's own
when it comes to going up or down.

Last week - it stayed up and completely drained the
battery. A mate said that it probably thought the pod
was not completely up - so keep winding up !

It was very hot after a few mins ... a turn of the
manual knob let it go down but it was pretty slow.

Anyone have any solutions !

Should I just get a new unit from Lucas - or make
adjustments (rods, oil etc..).

Alan,

Assuming that the SEACs use the same TR7 motor as the other, more humble wedges, check the routing of your wires. This happened to me a few years back when one of the wires got wrapped around the linkage and the the pod stopped a few mm short of being fully up, hence the cut off switch inside the motor didn't operate and it kept trying to wind up. The other thing to do before you spend a fortune at Lucas is to open up the black box on the isde of the motor and give the contacts a good clean out. When bought the +2, neither pod would go up or down and when I got inside the switchery it was green with verdigris and topped up with water. Now they even go up/down in unison!

OH the joys of the pod motors! You can get 2nd hand ones from Rimmer Bros for about £45 p'ex if I remember rightly.

There is/was also an excellent article on Wedge pages about Light operation to help with diagnostics so that might help although it sounds as if you have a sticking contact to me so it might respond to a strip and clean. Remember to take the fuse out if the pod does stick up (to protect the battery) and if you take the motor out remember to ensure you put it back in with the drive at the correct orientation on the shaft - as I found out the hard way you can refit with the drive 180 degrees out and it doesnt work!

Good luck!
