Can anyone recommend a filter to use to go before fuel pump?
Thanks

No .. sadly it normally goes after..

The input to the pump is very big ..

This place might do something .. I think TVRLeigh bought and fitted a pre-filter / swirl pot.

Just make sure you get one with a high flow removable copper filter.

The guy is very friendly and helpful, you can tell him I gave you his details if you want.

Also you may want to get a matching after pump filter. as these should be changed every 30,000 miles.
He also done a cheaper smaller one, that just pressed steel, if your a budget.

It's not such a daft question but I suspect the answer is the filter is finer after the filter than before it.

The filter before is gravity fed - and if too fine would impede the fuel flow to the pump .. not what you want.

It's also possible for an old pump to break up - so could infact send particles and block the very small injector outlets.. the filter here is finer and under pressure from the pump so the fuel is forced thru anyway.

Injection cars need very clean fuel, the after pump filter is very very fine, it even removed the colour of the fuel, it that fine.
This would never supply enough fuel via gravity, hence needing 2 filters, 1 to stop the big bits getting in the pump then a fine one to make sure the injectors don't clog up.

There used to be a pre-filter in the swirl pots, but this comes loose easy, and the new Ali ones don't have it.
