Wow!

There are a good few Wedges for sale at rather low prices - some of them look rather good too.

What's causing this depression in asking prices? Credit Crunch? Or just people generally asking for low money not thinking that their pride and joy might be worth a good bit more?

An item is ultimately only worth what someone is prepared to pay for it, as we all know, but has someone been short selling Wedges?

I think the miserable weather hasn't helped, plus the 'credit crunch' and rising petrol prices.

I'm fortunate enough to be single, so no nagging wife wanting rid of my toys (another pressure ? ).

A lot of people may feel more insecure financially at present.

Wedges have always represented fantastic value for money on the second hand market, but it's not up to us to make fellow Wedgers feel guilty for asking a lower price ...something that has happened in the past.

Chim, Griff and Speed 6 owners seem to be suffering bigger price drops, and they are so much more abundant of course.

Rarely are there more than 20 Wedges listed on PH classifieds, and maybe 2 or 3 on ebay.

I agree that it's up to the individual what they charge, and no intention of making anyone feel guilty. So sorry if that's the case.

An acquantance of mine had a Tuscan - engine rebuild of £3,000 ( or was it £4,000) and then sold it for £13,000! Yipes!

He was interested in my Wedge at rather a pleasant price but alas - lost telephone numbers, and he's now got a rather good looking BMW M3 convertible.

i think people can´t and arent longer willing to afford cars with big engines (thanx to our governments increasing the fuel prices and road taxes, also stricter environmental laws and people are unsecure about teh future, the economy, their jobs...etc..)...unfortunately TVR always based their constructions on big-engines, compared to Lotus who always based on leightweight and small engines.

maybe thats also a reason TVR had to close the factory.

Mine's in there at what I feel is a stupid price frownfrownfrownfrown

I'm just having to face facts though and after 12 years of ownership you get stupidly attached. Luckily as I've had it so long I don't think it owes me, more the opposite in fact. I'd rather sell it honestly at the right price to somebody who'll give the TLC that I can't than get it tidied up and MOT'd then sell it for as much as possible. Strangly who it goes to is more important than how much I can get for it which is why it's only advertised on here (yes, I'm a big softy at heart). There's no saying that whoever buys it (presuming it sells) won't do that however.
Driving to the beach in the sunshine yesterday made my decision for me, it killed me to go there in my eurobox when there was a much better car sat at home. Finances rule though and I was going to get an MOT in May, then June, then July etc but there was always something else around the corner that needed spending on.
If mine doesn't go (I've had enquiries already) then I may well think about getting it tidied up over the winter and sell next spring with a 12month MOT for more money. Chances are if that happens though I won't be able to let it go, then I'll be happy (but broke).
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that whoever buys will be/become a PH regular and I can lurk in the shadows looking at what I've lost like an old jilted boyfriend.

I recently sold my 400SE, to an enthusiast who had previously owned a 350i FHC. He's fairly local so it would be great to meet up and go for a hoon with my old car. She went for a tad under 7k, it was a lovely condition 400 though.

Shame if you sell Iain.
Gotta say though, that is almost giving her away - even given the few rough edges!
Hope the sale goes well... or not of course.

A little help.. wink

Bloody hell mate ! yikes

DON'T DO IT !!!

My old 280i had been stood for more than a year, and only needed a light bulb to pass the test !

I wish I hadn't sold that one AND the next one, AND this one which I've now bought back. frown

recently i bought a totally original, unmolested 280 FHC, chassis like new (99% of powder coating present, non waxoyled or "undersealed", unwelded rust-free outtriggers)...full service history (david gerald), original paint(!!)nice and shiny, no cracks in body, new stainless exhaust, new goodyear tyres, refurbed alloys, upgrade to vented discs incl. braided hoses all around, absolutely oil-dry engine and gearbox. original, unworn interior. all (all means, 100% of the electrics worked). car was featured in TVR club magazine and also had a celebrity former-owner....1500,-pound!!

and i think it wasnt such a bargain..it was, from the pesimistic point of view, a "normal" sales price today.

now to waynesters sales link:

the windscreen seams to be cracked in lower right corner (i might be wrong, but it looks like). enginebay "dusty" and looks like it needs a service. messy electrics underneath the dash. faded roof. unknown chassis condition.

as the seller already says: "Laquer lifting on front paintwork. Crack in front bumper by plate.Slashed leather in headrest. No doubt the normal electrical glitches as it's been sat doing nothing."

1800,- seams on the 1st view like a real bargain...but sort our all the above mentioned problems, incl. the ones we dont know and where you end?

And there may well be more problems, or there may not. I don't know the car.
With prices as they are, on here the range for 350i's is £2k - £5k+, & given the sellers description, it is still a very cheap V8 wedge.

The market is depressed enough without us bashing them down more!

Good luck with the sale Iain.

Graham -

Hope you had a good time at Harewood hillclimb - do you compete?

Some moons ago I used to travel regularly from my then home in South London to visit a girlfriend in a nearby village. We popped along to Harewood a few times to see the racing. Quite an interesting place and fascinating area all round.

Seems quite cheap to me.

I paid £1k for my 280i in July, it had been sat at least 12 months (maybe 18) and all it needed was 1 suspension rubber to pass the MOT, and a good service to get the engine back singing on note again. Still got some long term work to do and some cosmetic stuff but the main thing is I'm out in it having fun.

(see www.tvrwedge.co.uk if you want to see how much fun.)

Certainly if I'd still been looking I'd have given yours serious consideration.

Good luck with the sale. I'm sure it will make its new owner grin like a cheshire cat.

Norman.

@wedgeinald and sphs2:

i dont care if its a 390 or a 280....but you both didnt say anything about the chassis:

eventually welded outtriggers, powder-coating mostly gone and un-complete history is an absolutley no-go!! have viewed several mid/end ´90s chimaera´s where the chassis had been in a walk-away state (sure...all cars had a new mot)!! so finding a Tasmin with a perfect original chassis is a like winning lottery jackpot!!!

please consider this comparing our cars!!

Prices are all over at the moment, there are certainly bargains to be had.

I was talking to a friend who is a dealer about a month ago who told me Porsches in the 30-35k barckett had dropped by 3-4k in that month.

As has been posted before, the reasons are probably down to a mix economic uncertainty, fear of job losses, credit issues, maybe fear over taxes, fuel issues and partner issues. Then of course there's the wonderful weather we've had for 2 years and it is the end of the season when prices are usually lower.

It's not just a TVR issue I'm afraid.

Yep, great afternoon. thumbup

I'm not a good enough driver to compete, and I can't afford to write off my car. frown

Sometimes it's best to know your limitations.
I wouldn't mind 'run wot u brung' drag racing though.smile

in economic hard times the sales market gets more and more split in 2 parties, only:

1. really good and unmolested cars
2. all others

the 1st ones achieve high prices the 2nd ones achieve nothing.

unfortunately the market has 90% of no.2

I'll have a couple of the ones for nothing if you can find them please...a FHC and a convertible will do fine. Many thanks.

Oh, and I'm willing to pay you 10% commission on the purchase price. smile
