With all due respect, but if you have to ask the question may I suggest you get somebody who knows what they are doing to set the ignition timing.

Agreed....but provided the timing marks are clear it is quite easy. Essentially your plug connection goes to the N01 cylinder which is the on the right side of the engine as you stand in front of your car and will be the one nearest to you.

Make sure you slacken off the dizzy clamp nut first to allow some movement but not to much. Start the car, strobe your gun and advance or retard the timing until the timings marks line up.

Another tip is once the timing marks line up - take the car for a spin on a straight road get up into 4th and floor the throttle - you should be able accelerate with no hesitation, cutting out or pinking. If so the timing needs to be adjusted until you get the desired response regardless of where the timing marks may be once you have adjusted and tightened everything up.

Hope that helps...

Thanks, got the book but no indication of what pot many thanks all, just got the car and noticed the timing was 180 out, but it only seems to work this way and not the way the book indicates.
so just a bit of a tweak and were off hopefully.

Best get it set up on a Crypton Tuning type machine, as it will also show up any weaknesses in the ignition system, which will save you messing about replacing all sorts of bits which may not be needed, instead of just fixing the ones that ARE knacked.

Just to muddy the water even more....it's been said before that the timing marks are not always in the right place anyway on Wedges. getmecoat

A good tip is to dip your finger in some white paint and smear it over the marks - it makes them stand out for the strobe.
