I had the car (series 2 280) on a rolling road a while back and discovered that the car is running a bit lean. The people there suggested a new fuel filter may be in order. Well, I've had a look at mine and it's ancient, not been chenged in a long while, so I call my local auto parts store and get one. The one I got is different to the one on the car though, it's much bigger. It is the same one, however, that is pictured in The Bible so I assume it's the correct one.

So, are there different kinds available for my car or has a PO just fitted a wrong one? Could it be that the one that's on is too small (it's about the same size as the pump and accumulator, 2/3 the diameter of the new one and a little shorter) and could be causing the lean running?

Is there any problems with taking the current one off and putting the new one on and just bolting it into place?

As always, any help greatly appreciated.

Arrow in the correct direction.
Expect it to be under pressure.
Manual suggests releasing pressure by loosening union at fuel dist (pipe from WUR). Retighten.
Couple of cloths for petrol.
Check it doesn't foul the bonnet.
