Got my car back after having an oil pipe replaced (it split!), and i have my new ss ACT exhaust fitted.

So no more prob's, good. Nope... lights decide to go loopy!
When i put the lights on (1st click-side lights) the lamps rise, but the O/S one rises and lowers 6-8 times before finally settling in the properly raised position. N/S ok.
Also when i click the lights to dipped, nothing..the side lights go out, but pods remain raised. If i flick the stalk to full beam, they work, full beam that is, Wierd.

They both go down ok, but if i repeat i get the same again.

Any ideas? They were fine when i last tried..about a month ago. Car hasn't been in the rain or got wet any other way either.

Loose wire, earth, fuse maybe?

Wayne - I'm not a great expert in this area - someone like Adam Q knows more.. but I would take the light apart, clean the contacts and double check any earth circuits..

Time to get that volt meter out and start checking circuit diagrams.

The raising issue can often be an incorrectly adjusted headlight pod. Remember if it fails to some up - you can twist the knurled knob from under the wheel arch to get it to raise.

Others like Paul (GSX 600) have had issues to the switch itself.

Did I tell you that I fixed two electrical gremlins on my Fiat yesterday ? smile

Headlight not working and heater blower not working.

I searched the depths of my electrical know-how and twiddled with the connectors on both duff items...bingo! Both fixed. smile

I was full of myself for the rest of the day. hehe

I think I would also check the bulbs, might be you do have 2 dip bulbs failed , possibly for some other reason.

As Rev said mine was doing strange things on the raising and lowering, ie 1 would raise when switched on, the other may raise sometime up to 20 mins later.

I replaced the main dash switch on mine and not had an issue since smile

Also replace the heater switch and got 2 speeds back on the heater yikes

I had a problem with one pod that would not stop going up and down even after switching the lights off. The only way to stop it was to tenderly hold the pod closed with the light switch off. Replacing the relay worked.

Yesterday the lights came up normally, no up/down of the O/S one..but still no lights?

Thanks for the pointers, i'll give your suggestions a go.

The repeated upydownyness (my new word - TM leorest) could be due to intermittent contact with the limit switch which detects the fully up position. If the fully up position is not detected then the motor will keep running until it is detected and the pod will keep going up and down.

The intermittent nature could be either mechanical (switch location/bracketry bent/pod pivots loose) or electrical (broken wire etc). I had a similar but slightly different fault on the X1/9 years back which was due to a fractured diode leg which was pushed into contact when the motor mounting bracket was flexed by pushing the pod down.

Agree - I mentioned the height adjustment earlier.

Mine did that after I put it back together after a respray.

Adjusted.

Job done.

Try checking the wire's around the pipe's that were replaced and exhaust area since they worked before.
