Are there any diodes in the haz/indicator circuit? Are they in place and working OK?
I ask as I have used diodes in a wiring loom I designed for a Vixen. Good system, but bizarre things will happen if they fail.
I seem to remember "steering diodes" in the wedge wiring system. Cant remeber what system they pertain to...

Had the same problem with mine just as I was doing pre MOT checks, on the morning of the MOT which is a bit late and a good way to raise your blood pressure! Anyway, having taken everything apart including taking the switch out of the dashboard and clearing and reconnecting all terminals and flicking the switch several times everything worked fine!
I suspect the real issue was the internal workings of the hazard switch and a bit of movement of the switch brought it back to life, I would suspect a corroded/dirty internal contact! I think you can get some sort of spray lubricant that helps in such a situation!
