are the rear wheel bearings on this car xj6 jag type?

Mk II Granada, but you need an extra seal. I would imagine the usual specialists stock the kits.

And access to a press able to handle a few tons. Or you could be lucky and you can get them just out and the new ones in in the 'old fashioned way' with the brute manual force in the form of a heavy duty hammer.

Yeah the granada/consul bearings. heat definitely helps to get them out, and put the new one in the freezer before inserting it. But you still might need a press.

If you are very careful removing the seals, you might be able to re-use one. I would put the old one on the outside as it's not impossible to change it while still on the car, in case a new one turns up, plus it's more protected from moisture.
