Help, I'm trying to remove my steering wheel hub. I have a couple of pullers which fit the back side of the hub but all I'm doing is binding the hub-to-wheel face. I've tried taping while pulling. Any other tricks? (It will be hard to do the heat and ice trick, and yes, I removed the big nut behind the wheel.)

As described in the Wedge bible...

Put the big nut back a few turns so that when the wheel comes free it doesn't hit you in the face and put you in hospital. Dont't tap it as all that does is compress the collapsable bit. Pull on the wheel while rocking it and it will come loose. The fitting is a taper which is why it can be difficult.

I've done it as SH says - it requires some serious effort - and DO make sure you leave the main nut on otherwise you WILL smash yourself in the face - when it finally gives it's not a gradual easing - it flies off!

Good luck Grady. I don't want to hear that you got a concussion and had to be rushed to the hospital!!!!
