My 84 350i has been in RT Racing now for 8 weeks as per my original thread for overheating coolant loss and odd things at the rear suspension.
I bought this car in April of this year after looking at 2 or 3 later model wedges which i rejected for various reasons. I thought i knew a bit about motors having dabbled with various types and running engine test beds for car and aircraft motors 1500 bhp 14 cylinder twin superchargers radial if your interested, tasty noise on open stub pipes. Well back to my story,on investigation of my 3.5 motor a cracked liner was found, Richard @ RT sourced a 3.9 engine which is now in place with a full recon gbox and heavy duty clutch, as it happenened i walked into RT about 1 hour after they had fired here up sounded very nice but richard was not amused there it was all overheating and blowing out of expansion tank.
What radiator you got in here doesent seem to take much water to fill, it had a new one just before i bought it i said cant be right one says Richard, out it comes only got 2 cores holds about 1.25 gallons anyway its now a 4 core and we have no cooling problems i have the receipt from the original owner and the rad was supplied by a reputable company.
So to the rear suspension on stripping we find the nearside driveshaft again i have a receipt to be to long in length sent away to be shortened all bushes have been replaced suspension reshimmed and laser aligned.
The wheels are going away today for refurb and she should be ready next week.
I spent many hours looking over this car before buying and for 2000 miles seemed ok only throttle pot problem. I think the cracked liner was due to lack of coolant capacity plus the fans only being on a manual switch plus a mk1 smiths gauge giving a far to low a reading so by the time i had remembered to switch the fans on it was to late BE WARNED.
I travel about 48000 miles a year in my job and have seen 3 wedges in about 5yrs imho there is nothing to touch them pound for pound on the road long may they live.
PS I might change my mind when i get Richards bill.
